The Balbharti road has a long, fascinating history which typifies the true Puneri spirit. It all began in 1982 when PMC added the rd in their draft DP 1987. Even then, some women were aware of the vital role played by urban forests, something which is obvious now!

From any angle, the BB–PP road is a disaster in the making bad for Vetal Tekdi, worse for Pune. Looking at PMC’s legacy of potholes and missed deadlines, handing them ₹250cr (tax payers money) to build a 2.1km road through Vetal Tekdi feels like funding your own misery.
The Solicitor General of India is @PMCPune counsel to fight for the disastrous BB-PP road! And yet the Supreme Court would not give a go ahead for the 2 km road across a verdant hill that will destroy a natural heritage Pune has nurtured and needs desperately in these terrible

The presumption that Environmental Clearance will be granted.. There never was any serious attempt by the PMC to assess environmental damage and viability of this project. EIA is just another rubber stamp. #BalbharatiRd #VetalTekdi
The Hon'ble Supreme Court sets a precedent. Orders PMC to conduct a fresh Environment Impact Assessment and get an EC for the #BalbharatiRd on #Vetaltekdi. It is gratifying that the highest court has recognised the importance of Pune's pristine Vetal Tekdi 💚

A precedent setting decision by the Supreme Court at a time when most road projects have used the loophole in the EIA notification to escape from the requirement of carrying out EIA studies @sushmadate

Without last mile connectivity, the commuting public just will not shift to the Metro. And for that one needs a frequent, efficient bus system. Just common sense. Look at developed countries where the Metro has been successful in decongesting roads.
It’s not buses vs metro competition, one cannot survive without another. Metro Alignment in India is designed in such a way that they will see lesser ridership without buses. Do a public survey and you’ll realise >90% of the population in Indian cities that travel by metro

If there is just one thing India can do fast to improve quality of life- its footpaths. Not Multi crore flyovers, not 8 lane highways, just a simple 10 feet wide footpath everywhere. This is such a low hanging fruit, why can’t we do this. (Let’s figure out problem of

Corruption in India has become endemic - seeped deeply into all institutions from top to bottom. There is no other explanation for how something so tragic was even allowed to happen. A country that fails its children is doomed 😧

70 children died after consuming Indian manufactured cough syp in 2022. Since then, WHO has flagged 16 Indian drug companies and even countries like Nepal and Uzbekistan have blacklisted some Indian cough syrups. But India's CDSCO is sleeping 😔 https://t.co/LeO9J4Fcug

Unbelievable!😱🙄 Health ministry advisory asking hospitals/clinics/doctors to procure products made under Good Manufacturing Practices, using safe ingredients Really?! How are they supposed to do that? Isn't that the job of drug regulator, to ensure all drugs in market are safe?

🚨 If you live in an Indian city, this concerns you. Increasingly, pedestrian space doesn't belong to the public. It's a pattern across Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and various cities. Help us trace how the rich are taking over public space: https://t.co/yJD9pHIOUZ

#Vetaltekdi is under constant threat. It's viewed as valuable real estate to be 'developed' by the powers that be, not as a pristine, green public space, rich in biodiversity, a vital groundwater recharge zone and a community reserve for Punekars Please tune in at 8 pm today to

The project was a huge success. Over a few years, the population of the Lesser Florican increased by 371% ( by contrast, the population in the nearby control site at Dhar decreased by 50% in the same time frame) To read more - https://t.co/SF6KbScnGP

Here's a lovely song created by Jhunjunwala's team to inspire affection among the villagers towards the little feathered friend in their fields - खरमोर आया, खुशहाली लाया, पंखोंसे ढोल बजकर, बदल गरजाया https://t.co/bsWHsjMJ05

Outreach programs were conducted in village commons, in schools to educate villagers, especially children about the ecological importance of grasslands and why birds like the Kharmor should not be allowed to go extinct.
