My experience has been similar. I basically have an unlimited budget to use it and do take advantage of that. It certainly helps, but with a large codebase, it requires a lot of manual context management to get decent results. And goes off the rails often.
I'm ~8 weeks into this experiment of "write every line of code using an agent". For a production service at Sentry mind you. Yesterday I was finally broken and had to open my editor. Here's what I've learned so far. .

The best manager I ever had was really good at this. Another decent manager I had was not good at this, and the exact same team began to feel very chaotic.
There’s really nothing worse than a nervous, chaotic leader. Being a stable leader starts with understanding what’s happening. That means being present, having insight into day to day work, thinking regularly about it. It means having stable conviction in what reality is on.
