it’s called ROBOT (roll over and back) technique. The linebacker’s first responsibility is run, and if once he sees pass he backpedals he’ll never get there so he’s taught to turn and run and find crossers. He doesn’t get there but not “completely lost”

Incredibly momentous for football that Mike Leach has passed away. It is no understatement whatsoever to say that Leach fundamentally changed football forever, and I am not sure there was any more influential coach in the last 40 years, when you include high school and college.🧵

Why rapport and trust are so massively important for QBs and receivers: Kelce didn’t even run the called route on the play that got the Chiefs into FG range at the end of regulation

Mississippi State’s offense is 💯% the same scheme that WSU ran last year. No new plays, no new formations.... so far.

Who was Alabama going to get that was better than Kalen DeBoer? Also, no, I do not think Kalen DeBoer will be able to maintain the same level of success as *checks notes* maybe the single greatest coach in the history of college football?

tavon austin has over $40M of career earnings. how much of that is attributable to how good his college highlights were? (I think the answer is: a lot)

stuff like this was happening way too much for Alabama. Bama’s OC and OL coach are two former NFL HCs, Bill O’Brien and Doug Marrone. Some of the issues were just inexcusable

JaMarr Chase is one the best "Go" route runners ever. And it's not that he's just Tyreek Hill fast or just wins a lot of jump balls by Mossing people. It's leverage, body control, late hands, release, acceleration - it's almost spooky

Gary Patterson is/was crazy influential for defensive coaches. His legacy at TCU is immense, but he's one of those coaches that influenced an entire generation of coaches who never even coached with or met with him, just how he did things on defense.

Dave Aranda has always followed Gary Patterson, even finding bootleg videos on his Hotmail account. Aranda and #Baylor were supposed to square off with Patterson Saturday. Here's his reaction to the firing. #TCU #SicEm

The thing to remember too is that one of the reasons why Leach's offense was so simple with so few plays, is he wanted the QB to be able to check/audible into *anything* based on the defense. From @MichaelWeinreb 's excellent Grantland piece:

My sophisticated analysis is if the Ohio State DC is going to sit in static coverages and let Sark get DeVonta Smith matched up on an *inside linebacker* on deep over/seam routes... it’s going to be a long day

That ending sequence for Ohio State left something to be desired… can’t really blame a college kicker for not hitting a 50 yarder from the left hash
