Some Coaching Thoughts…. - Win with feet before hands. You’re in better shape to cut off leverage & disrupt the release. - Think “quick” rather than “power” when pressing to disrupt timing. - Engage 90%. DB coaches - love to get your thoughts/have a discussion on this!.

If the DB connects to the WR with a locked arm, often the same hip will lock out as well. I’ve noticed this often happens with one step cadences from WRs (fake jab outside/inside first then come back the other way)

DB Press Technique Thoughts. Came across this video from Benny Urquidez & @KARATEbyJesse on punch power. Benny states that if you lock out your arm when punching, you risk lunging and getting off balance. Could the 90% rule help keep DBs balanced?. More thoughts 🧵

Script Everything. It takes an extra 10-15 minutes the night before practice, but it’s so worth it. Scripting encourages every assistant coach to be locked into the play side so they can coach up their position properly. Nobody is guessing what play is going to happen, and

Film Everything. There's so much you miss/forget while coaching. Try to get a camera on as much as you can. Here are a few ideas:. - Have student assistants, volunteers, or injured players film during practice (if you don't have the manpower). - We bought cheap refurbished.

Set Up Consistent Time Structures. For example:. Indy Periods: 5-7 Minutes.Group Periods 8-10 Minutes.Team Periods 10-15 Minutes. Shorter periods = more focus on 1 thing. Anything longer than 20 minutes is too much standing around. Kids get bored and lose focus. Shorter periods

Creating Practice Structures That Work. The hardest part about structuring practice is ensuring you get everything in, keeping players engaged, and developing/sharpening skills. Here are some frameworks that will help you maximize each minute in practice. Thread 🧵

The shoulders matter just as much as the anchoring leg. Teaching wise, I teach the shoulder turn first, then the back leg. Final coaching points:. • Make contact and try to create knock-back. • Once the double team is felt, turn shoulders, then anchor the back leg. • Pull.

Once the shoulders are turned, if you can get the 2nd offensive linemen on your back, by turning and pulling the first contacted linemen, you create a circular force which allows you to hold your ground. Here’s a visual:

Whether vertical zone or gap double teams, the OL needs a strike point on the shoulder pads to generate force. So anchoring the back leg doesn’t necessarily matter if your shoulders are square, as you’ll be fighting an engaged, 600 pound force

One thing I took from Coach Scarnecchia when we recorded on @vIQtorySports is how offensive linemen want to create a 600 pound force by getting 2 feet, 2 hips, 2 shoulders and 2 hands on the defender’s shoulder pads.

How To Take On A Double Team. The common way to take on a double team is to anchor/sink the back leg and “get skinny.”. But do the shoulders turning matter more than the leg anchoring?. Thread 🧵
