Without litigation funding, the sub-postmasters affected by the Horizon IT scandal would never have had their day in court. These are David vs Goliath cases, and this government will ensure that ordinary people have the support they need to hold powerful organisations to account.

Justice should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. That’s why we are reversing the PACCAR ruling on litigation funding. https://t.co/r8uQfYqs8j

Government says move will empower citizens but critics say it will expose businesses to more costly class-action lawsuits

Hannukah the festival of lights is meant to be shared in public to spread the light. That’s why across London next to Christmas trees you will see Hannukiot - candelabras - which will be lit tonight. Im working with CST and police to ensure security plans are stepped up.

Horrific scenes from Bondi - where the target appears to be people enjoying the start of the Jewish festival of Hannukah and a day at the beach. This feels so close to home. My thoughts are with the people affected and their families and with my Australian family and friends.

The case for change. Thank you @JamesFrith for this powerful thread of Labour colleagues @NatalieFleetMP, @LFarnz, @catkinson80 and @alexmclabour standing up for victims. Action cannot wait. The courts system faces a slow motion collapse without bold reform.
Great to see @UKLabour colleagues cutting through the disinformation around @DavidLammy’s critical justice reforms and standing up for victims. We are not abolishing juries. They remain a cornerstone of our democracy. But without bold action, the court system faces collapse. 🧵

Homelessness and rough-sleeping are a moral stain on our society. It doubled under the Conservatives. This Labour Government is investing £3.5bn to prevent homelessness, and end rough-sleeping for good.

Spot the difference: Court Reform Gov benches: Women fighting for swifter justice for victims let down by those opposite Opposition: Men in suits clinging on to a Magna Carta myth… Glad to be on side of @sarahsackman & gov, fighting for victims already failed for too long

Linsey speaks with immense authority. Worth a read!
The government’s proposed reforms, whilst bold, are sensible and offer a pragmatic solution to the court backlog crisis and provides a pathway to a criminal justice system that will ensure victims can always receive the swift justice that they deserve. https://t.co/wRcfojcBMx

Magistrates are volunteers who sit at the heart of our justice system, making decisions that matter and helping deliver justice where it’s needed most. Learn more about the vital contribution magistrates make to society - and why more people should consider volunteering.

If you are raped today, you could be waiting until 2030 for trial. Victims across land need leadership & decisive action to get our justice system moving. “Why curtailing juries can help save British justice.” Me for @NewStatesman ⬇️⬇️⬇️ https://t.co/aEM3tGF3o6

Victims waiting 5 years for their case to go to court is unacceptable. Lives are being put on hold and justice is not being served. Minister @sarahsackman explains why today’s announcement of bold court reforms are vital in ensuring swifter justice for victims.

A brilliant evening chairing a panel discussion after screening Prima Facie. Panellists called for an end to using victims' "bad character” evidence and examined whether jury-less trials could reduce agonising delays. Rape victims are being failed, and reform is long overdue.

Today, as we stand in the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, a woman in London could be told that her trial is being set for 2029/30. That is why I am doing everything I can to bring down the backlog in our courts. #16DaysOfActivism

Last year we froze prescription charges for the first time in years. We’re freezing prescription charges AGAIN - and we’ve kept all the exemptions for those who need them.

Though the colour of our rosettes differed, ultimately, we wanted the same thing: the very best for the people of our corner of North London. John was always warm, gracious and full of kind advice. An exemplary public servant - he will be truly missed.

I am incredibly sad to hear of the loss of former MP and Garden Suburb councillor, John Marshall. In his maiden speech, John spoke about the Garden Suburb as “the most attractive conservation area of London.” I share that sentiment - it remains a most special part of our city.

After last night’s horrific attack, my thoughts today are with the victims, their friends and family. My deepest thanks go to the British Transport Police, Cambridgeshire Police, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service and the East of England Ambulance Service. They responded

Chris Philp had 6 opportunities to condemn Reform MP Sarah Pochin’s racist comments. He refused. This is what the Tory Party has become. Too weak to stand up to Reform. Labour is clear - there is no place for this politics in the Britain we are building.

I’m so glad to announce that my campaign has been a success, and the £318 fee that survivors of domestic abuse needed to pay to keep their address private when seeking financial assistance has been SCRAPPED 🎉 Huge thank you @sarahsackman
