Today I publish the London Victim Attrition Review — a landmark study exposing why so many victims disengage from the justice system. The findings are stark: the system is failing victims. We cannot accept this status quo. Victims deserve better.

The introduction of a legal definition of honour-based abuse is a landmark step in protecting victims. Alongside new guidance and training, this will help ensure these abhorrent crimes are consistently recognised, investigated and perpetrators are brought to justice.
Minister Jess Phillips Visits Karma Nirvana and Announces 6 New Measures to Tackle Honour Based Abuse in the UK 🕊️. We welcomed the Minister for Safeguarding Jess Phillips MP @ukhomeoffice to our offices in Leeds to highlight our life-saving work and what is needed to tackle HBA

It’s clear from this case that the @CICAgov compensation scheme hasn’t kept up with the law. The crime was prosecuted here, and yet the victim isn’t eligible for compensation. Govt should use the Victims & Courts Bill to close this loophole.

This letter speaks for countless frontline support organisations - many facing existential crisis. Even amid tight finances, we cannot deprioritise this vital support. Without it, we will see even more victims withdrawing from the process, and offenders left to act with impunity.
📣Tens of thousands of survivors could have life-saving support services taken away from them – unless the government takes immediate action. Together with @survivorstrust and @ThisIsSurvivors, we've written an urgent letter to @ukhomeoffice. Read now >

We should all be very concerned by the incidents described in this article and the surge in antisemitism. World events can never be used to justify such hatred. Police and CPS must act swiftly, holding offenders to account and ensuring victims feel safe

Almost 1/3rd of Crown Court trials in London don't take place on the day scheduled, and this is just one example why. While Leveson's reforms are urgently needed, small inefficiencies have a big impact on victims, and this needs the scrutiny of an independent courts inspectorate.
Sentencing hearing for sexual assaults on children is derailed because a solicitor submitted a report late, 10 minutes before the hearing was due to start. Court assembled, 20 ppl including dad of a victim are here. 6-week adjournment. This kind of blunder should carry a penalty.

My Victim Attrition research shows delays to charging decisions in rape and sexual violence cases can cause survivors to quit the process. If you’re a survivor of sexual violence & have waited 3+ years for a charging decision, please share your experience .@RapeCrisisEandW ⬇️.
📣 We want to hear from survivors of sexual violence who've had to wait 3+ years for a police decision on whether to charge a perpetrator or close the case. Please share your experience by 1 September. ➡️

I’ve long called for robust exclusion zones that put victims’ safety and freedom first. I welcome today’s announcement and hope it marks a shift: it must be offenders who face restrictions- not their victims.

The latest @CST_UK report shows worryingly high levels of antisemitic hate crime, the second- highest total ever recorded. Antisemitism has no place in London or anywhere in the UK. Police and CPS must act robustly to restore confidence among victims and the Jewish community.
CST released its Antisemitic Incidents January-June 2025 report today, showing 1,521 cases of anti-Jewish racism logged over the first half of the year. 🧵.👉

Pleased to see progress on stalking training & new tools to assess risk, but improvements must be judged by implementation, not just intention. Victims still face inconsistent responses - especially for victims of non-DA stalking. I echo @live_life_safe calls for continued action.
We welcome the @PoliceChiefs report on progress in implementing stalking super-complaint recommendations. However, concerning disparities between forces remain. We urge continued action to ensure two years of investigation weren't in vain. 👉 Read more:

My Victim Attrition Review showed that 40% of victims withdraw from justice (69% of rape victims). One thing is clear: the justice system is not working. Leveson's proposals are a significant change, but we can no longer tinker around the edges while the justice system fails.

I welcome this announcement-a change I called for in my London Stalking Review. Stalking Protection Orders can provide early intervention and protection. Now we need urgent measures so these orders can be applied swiftly, whilst a victim waits for justice.
For many victims of stalking, every day means living on edge, bracing for the next violation of their privacy and safety. That’s why we’re widening the use of Stalking Protection Orders to address perpetrators’ behaviours and protect victims at the earliest opportunity.

Too many victims of sexual offences are re-traumatised by their experiences in court. @Law_Commission's proposed reforms could change this, and safeguard victims' privacy, dignity and rights throughout the justice process. My full statement⬇️
