Over Recess, I’ve loved being able to spend even more time listening to residents, meeting charities, supporting community events and celebrating our brilliant local businesses. Now Parliament is back, and Derby will continue to be at the heart of everything I do.

I really enjoyed returning to Umbrella today to join one of their Holiday Activity and Food Fund sessions. Their play scheme has been such a support for families over the summer, giving children the chance to take part in fun and engaging activities.

Lovely to catch up with Avtar Singh Jawanda, one of the winners of my Intergenerational Volunteer Award with @DerbyUni. Avtar has made a huge difference - delivering food parcels, offering medical help, and supporting education projects. Congratulations again, Avtar!

Derby is home to some brilliant innovation. Sperry Rail and the University of Derby are using AI to detect cracks in rail tracks — making our railways safer and more efficient. A great example of local research solving real-world problems in the rail industry.

Brilliant to visit Tioga. Skilled local people building the electronics behind everything from medical equipment to aerospace and defence. A great example of the advanced manufacturing that makes Derby’s role in our country’s economy so important.

I visited Hitachi to see the new EMR trains being built – the first will be carrying passengers by the end of the year, bringing more comfortable, faster and more sustainable journeys for people travelling through our region and beyond.

Private parking rules are finally being rewritten - let’s make them fair. The Government’s new Code for Private Parking Companies is open for consultation. If you've had an unfair fine, now’s your chance to help change the system. Have your say:

Today marks 80 years since VJ Day - the end of the Second World War in the Far East. We remember the courage and sacrifice of all who served. Their legacy will never be forgotten.

I spent time with children & young people supported by Umbrella, chatting about my role as their MP. @UmbrellaDerby has been supporting disabled children & young people and their families for nearly 40 years; I know just how much of a difference they make to lives across Derby.
