Taken me a couple of days to process just how special the Isles of Scilly have been in the past week or so. Pure magic. The birding has been nothing short of outrageous, whether from land or sea. The Booby, Fea’s/Desertas to kick us off followed by a host of other stunners…

Another belting day out with the gang at @RSPBFrampton with the Pacific Golden Plover again, amply supported by a cast of Garganey, Curlew Sand, Wood Sand, Spotshank, Little Stint and Short Eared Owl. Not to forget mental views of Corn Bunting too! Looking like a 25 wader day!

Absolutely gutted to miss the Glossy Inis at dinner time but elated to refind it while watching the surge tide at Gibraltar Point this evening!! Circled the floods before heading back into the plantation. This plus 13 Wheatear (inc. a flock of 11) made for a decent day!

Another day on the Skerries, with @OwenBeaumont1 finding this brilliant male Red-backed Shrike this morning. Managed to get my best views this afternoon. With a Bluethroat still around too! On to tomorrow.

Quality twitch with @SpinneyBirder and massive credit to him for driving us there. Grey-headed Lapwing eventually showed well (much better than images suggest) despite enjoying being hidden. My first 1st for Britain, not likely to be forgotten any time soon. @BirdGuides

An absolutely incredible weekend with the @InstaBirders gang @spurnbirdobs culminated yesterday afternoon in finding a Grey Headed Wagtail on the point. Absolutely stunning Male. More to come from this weekend, with the Subalp, Bee Eater, Bluethroat and Purple heron seen too!

Barn Owls always a treat on the reserve at Gibraltar Point, with point blank views at times. Grasshopper Warbler and Osprey new for the year list today, up to a staggering 167 species. Let’s see what tomorrow brings… @LWTWildNews @Lincsbirding

Absolutely shocking record shot but 3 Cranes north over the freshwater marsh at Gibraltar Point were a cracking addition to the year list- not to mention a full fat lifer! Generally quiet otherwise, with at least 5 Spoonbill and single Arctic and Common Tern at Tennyson’s

Cracking way to see my first, the Rosy Starling showed exceptionally well on the beach below Little Porth mid afternoon. Took a bit of a shine to this bird while looking through the bins, not just your standard LBJ!

A lovely day around Gibraltar Point today with 14 Corn Bunting, 2 Long Tailed Duck, 12 Avocet, Green Woodpecker and this rather showy Treecreeper 👇🏻 Also 21/8 in a FROZEN SOLID moth trap this morning, highlights Oak Beauty, Small Quaker and 11 Common Quaker. @LWTWildNews

Birding was far from my thoughts this morning but the rain brought a scattering of migrants including a Brambling and this absolute corker of a Hawfinch. Really smart bird, only the second one I’ve seen here at Gibraltar Point this year. @LWTWildNews @Lincsbirding @InstaBirders

Like London busses… the three Cranes came back to Gibraltar Point! Can’t believe my luck, and thankfully got better views and photos today as they bugled their way back to Norfolk. 24 hours after I’d first seen them, and having been seen in North Lincs and Yorks… Mental!!
