Watercolour study of the Oxfordshire Common Nighthawk. Without a doubt the bird of the autumn so far, but still plenty of time left. Might do a few prints if anyone is interested!

Not a surprise that the Caspian Tern at Holme Pierrepont on Saturday didn’t hang around for long, got some grief from the local Common Terns. @NottsBirders

A bit gutted to have missed the Caspian Tern at Kilvington on Friday, so very happy to see it last night at Holme Pierrepont. 2nd one I’ve seen in my home 5km radius in the past 3 years!.@NottsBirders

Two things are certain in this world: death, and dashing down to Holme Pierrepont because Alan Clewes has found a rare tern. Hunting back and forth right in front of us this evening. What a crazy run of Caspian Terns Notts is having - annual since 2021, including 3 in 2022.

Given I live in Nottinghamshire, Turtle Dove is a very rare treat for me these days. Loved spending some time with a couple of pairs in Bedfordshire the past few evenings.

This Turtle Dove nearly became a Turtle Dead when I was driving along a track near my survey site in Bedfordshire on Tuesday. New one for the car list though.

Cool to see this ‘Bling’ Ouzel in the Peak District recently, a 2CY male back for his first breeding season. Seems like he’s got the hang of fatherhood, having already fledged some young when we visited. Hopefully the first of many! Thanks to @kimleyland for the info.

Been coming to this spot in the Peak District for Ring Ouzels every year for about 13 years now, these were by far the most special views I’ve had though. Glad to see this male was feeding at least two healthy fledged young.

Male Wood Warbler in the Peak District last week, an unpaired bird which was a shame, as he was really trying his best to attract a mate.

Red-throated Pipit on Lesvos at the start of the month, they don’t make pipits like this in the UK.

This Wood Warbler didn’t stop singing for a single minute in the Peak District over a several hour period on Wednesday afternoon, even when it was eating caterpillars. Grown even more respect for them, must use up so much energy.

Male Ring Ouzel in the Peak District yesterday with @samgod96, a bird I look forward to seeing up in the peaks every year (pic taken from a main path well away from the already-fledged chicks).

Had to deal with having very wet boots for the rest of the day after this, worth it though, pretty cool to get into the mind of a Squacco Heron. On Lesvos a few weeks ago.

Nice drake Little Crake wandered out into the open at Metochi Lake, Lesvos at nearly dusk a couple of weeks ago (photo taken at ISO 8,000). Really enjoying the Canon R7 so far, probably the best value for money camera on the market?
