Hey @DCPoliceDept @DCPoliceUnion look at this - a police officer who parks their car, puts down their phone and gets out and walks around and does something!
Enforcement from this past Monday. Opted to not ride my bike as I’ve learned the hard way in these freezing temperatures with a slip and fall off my bike. Nice to switch it up. @Sysco completely obstructing a sidewalk and no standing zone enforcement $100/$150 fines #WalkTO

Someone drove their car through the front door of the Whole Foods on River Road and the vehicle made it all the way back to the Seafood Department. @MCFRS says 2 people had non-life threatening injuries. A miracle no one was seriously hurt. @Fox5DC: https://t.co/u9X9kyfKNi

I keep vacillating between folks who share my #perfectistheenemyofthegood stance in life vs the #bikedc and @ggwash folks who seemingly got this proposed defunding in motion. But only “motorists” being mentioned in this tweet is a big FU
Today, stand with me in support of our downtown. The K Street Transitway means more safety, more reliability, less congestion, and better motorist experiences in the heart of our downtown. ⏰ 12PM 📍 1332 I St NW (Franklin Park)

Agree with Monica from @EatAtElle . Let’s get rules in place to level the playing field and include all fees in menu prices. There are too many bad actors misleading customers and making it harder for the rest of us.

We disagree with @ashokbajajdc on this, but encourage likeminded folks to recognize that you don’t persuade people by shaming and dragging. Esp when we have the evidence on our side. Dialogue much more effective!

. @councilofdc @MayorBowser: What’s the end state here? Registration and insurance no longer required in D.C.?
DC has no plan on stopping fake and obscured tags. @tjl sheds light on the scale of the problem, why it grew, and how the online marketplace makes fake tags freely available.

What is stopping DC from filing liens against any vehicle with outstanding tickets, regardless of jurisdiction? Or sending debt collectors?
.@ELaserDavies and @luzcita report that the 3 people killed on Rock Creek Parkway by the driver of a speeding vehicle with over 40 camera tickets (over $12k in unpaid fines) were a Lyft driver and his 2 passengers

We need better road design, but we also need more enforcement. Inexcusable that a car can rack up over 12K in fines and still be on the road.
I think we need to have an honest conversation as a community about what it will really take to get to Vision Zero. I don’t want people to just pay fines. I want them to change behavior. But any enforcement proposal beyond booting keeps getting knocked down.

DC needs to begin sending these tickets to collection. And assessing points for speeding:
dcist.com
D.C. police officers can issue points for traffic offenses, and a new bill in the D.C. Council would allow traffic cameras to do the same.

Completely avoidable with the right policies and a willingness to stand up to the car lobby.
3 dead in Rock Creek Park. $12,000 in unpaid speeding tickets. Catch and release policies - or failure to even enforce laws - is costing lives. Those who support and create these policies slip, slide and duck their responsibility.

@richardbiancojr @BarredinDC @thepugdc @DCAttorneyGen Remember when you just went to a bar and enjoyed it and tipped and you didn’t need bifocals to read the fine print. That was fun

Urging bars and restaurants to be good actors. Make compulsory charges/fees prominent and clear on menues and ensure servers and bartenders remind customers when giving them the check. This industry relies on trust—especially neighborhood establishments.
.@DCAttorneyGen office is sending letters to DC bars and restaurants to remind them that 1) yes, service charges are legal. 2) but they must be “prominently, clearly, and accurately disclosed” to customers before they order

Postscript: We've accepted I-82, but I still believe it will lead to worse outcomes for some bars and some employees as described nearly five years ago:

If voters eliminate the “tip credit,” it would do more harm than good.

In the long run, this approach would improve the overall experience for everyone, especially consumers. Fin.

The last bit is tough, but I do think the DC hospitality industry should come together and proactively work with the council on a "fairness in pricing" measure, where businesses are required to list fee-inclusive prices (including tax and auto-grat) and when they apply. 8/
