Generally speaking, I think it comes down to the politics involved in landing a lot of these gigs which makes them unattractive, even with an increase in pay.
If somebody needs to spend 3 months convincing a DAO they’re suitable for the task, to earn 1.5x their monthly salary
Some personal news:
Over the past year,

Today, I'm stoked to announce that I'll be joining the
@rabbithole_gg
team as a Data Analyst to continue my work on understanding onchain incentives, and how they may be optimized to benefit ecosystems in a positive-sum nature.
Many discussions on governance arrive at participation being a major pain point. But less discussions 📍 a method of calculating participation that captures the full scope of governance participation.

Not a great take imo. Uniswap V4 contracts are still permissionless. Setting aside the whole KYC philosophy debate, I see KYC hooks as a significant opportunity for the space. They could address institutional concerns regarding sanctions when transacting on Uniswap, where

Alongside the $ARB token launch,

announced the launch of DAO governance.
Our Governor team has already updated the DAO's governance process on the Arbirtum DAO profile page.

My journey into researching and analyzing incentives began during my time as a Gov Lead at Messari. After an unexpected company-wide restructuring in July, tnorm and I decided to double down on our efforts.

@francisgowen
really hit the nail on the head here. I understand the collective’s iterative process, but it’s logical to assume that these early iterations are critical to the long term success of the entire initiative. I personally think that Optimizing for & funding
3/ This rhetoric seemed to bifurcate nominated projects into well-funded or non-funded.
It's backward and blinding - making folks overlook the actual contributions of projects
Why penalize those who have received funding if they offer, free open-sourced public goods?
I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue this work alongside
@t__norm
, and the talented Rabbithole team! I still believe the incentive space has tons of fascinating challenges, & joining Rabbithole to take on these challenges feels like the most natural progression.
Since July, I've contributed to multiple incentive analyses to the Optimism Collective both independently & on behalf of NumbaNERDs, and assisted in coordinating the STIP program (the largest DAO-led incentive funding initiative I know of).
🤝9/ Multi-DAO collaboration could increase capital efficiency, with DAOs co-sponsoring mutually beneficial grants, working groups, or development. Examples like
@ProtocolGuild
Pilot Program show the potential of this approach.
Yo
@DeFi_Dad
it would be so cool if
@zapper_fi
did something similar to what earni. fi does in order to find missed airdrops.. could even have

notify users!
Told my largest OP delegator that by delegating to me, he'd 1.5x the value of his OP, competitive with yield farming. With the most recent yield distribution (ie, 3rd OP airdrop), he's received a +25% return on his initial delegated OP amount and has since doubled his position

@t__norm
& I have been analyzing the effectiveness of incentives subsidized via Token House Grants:
Agora Profile:
West Profile:
🚧6/ Operational expenses were the most commonly funded category, with nine DAOs allocating funds. This category ensures that tasks like accounting, hiring, and onboarding are handled efficiently, supporting the DAO's overall functioning.
🌐3/ Working groups are essential in DAOs to facilitate progressive decentralization. They can be lean & flexible, adapting to the rapidly changing
#crypto
landscape. But they also face challenges, such as market volatility, resource competition, and DAO member expectations.
Key takeaways:
• Incentives can drive short-term spikes in usage; however, tapering and strict vesting could sustain activity further
• Wash trading remains an issue in trading incentive programs
• Incentives led to a 23x surge in trading volume but only doubled daily traders
⚖️10/ Balancing decentralization and contributor retention is key. By regularly reviewing compensation models, fostering recognition, and implementing transparent performance evaluation systems, DAOs can create sustainable ecosystems while staying true to their core values.
Today Optimism is announcing OP Airdrop
#3
.
19M OP allocated to over 31k unique addresses to reward positive-sum governance participation in the Collective.
Read on for details on eligibility criteria and allocations.
🔗11/ The future of DAO funding is full of exciting possibilities. By understanding current funding allocations and exploring new strategies, we can help shape the next era of decentralized organizations. Read the full report here:
#DAOs
📚2/
#DAOs
are reshaping how we approach organizational governance. By analyzing DAO working groups & their budgets, we can better understand how resources are being allocated to drive innovation and growth.
1/ Most DAOs are highly fragmented and inefficient.
The current lack of standardization requires DAOs to reconcile data across each tool utilized in their tool stack.
The answer: the blockchain, through the integration of identity and social graphs.🧵
💰4/ We analyzed 2022 funding data from 10 DAOs and categorized payments into five categories: Product & Development, Growth, Operational, Marketing, and Community expenses. In total, $102M was allocated to internal DAO labor.
📣7/ Marketing and Community expenses play crucial roles in promoting the platform, increasing user engagement, and fostering a strong, inclusive community around the DAO's protocol. This helps attract new users, retain existing members, and encourage active participation.
In our State of
@optimismFND
Governance report,
@t__norm
and I look at the total executable voting power and compare that to the total executed voting power.
4/ The incentives impacted usage metrics, significantly driven by participants in the
@Galxe
quests. Despite the surge in daily addresses, the quests seemed to have less impact on TVL growth. These types of quests appear to be a great way to attract many smaller depositors.
8/ We were very excited to see PoolTogether promoting/educating reward claimers on governance, and we think this should be emphasized in future programs!

@t__norm
and I have been conducting long-form analysis on OP grants, providing in-depth data analysis on impact and accountability.

Retrospective Funding Analysis:
@Uniswap
V3 LP Incentives (OP) 📊
Retrospective analysis is crucial to understanding the effectiveness of funded projects and is key for future iterations/experiments within the
@optimismFND
Collective. Here are the main takeaways from our report:
🛠️5/ Product & Development made up 55% of the funding, with Growth at 22%. These categories are critical for ensuring the smooth operation and innovation of the protocol, as well as fostering broader ecosystem growth.
9/ Takeaway:
The Collective & proposing protocols should consider metrics and objectives for retention and long-term sustainability. The observed decline in TVL post-incentives suggests that future KPIs should measure long-term sustainability, not just a spike during incentives.
🌱8/ As the the blockchain ecosystem evolves, funding methods must also adapt. DAOs should focus on performance measurement & accountability, contributor retention & satisfaction, and experimentation with novel compensation models to attract and retain top talent.
Many rely on simply calculating participation as: a contributor voting x times, out of y proposals. But what if, for example, the most impactful contributor joins late? Should their impact be defined by their voting participation?

5/ Transaction activity during the incentive period increased, but significantly increased between September and January. Like daily transacting addresses, this can be attributed to the Galxe quests.
