Four years ago, I arrived in Texas with a mission to create places my grandparents could live by providing safe streets for all. Today, on my last day with the City of Houston, I am proud of the progress we have made.
Thank you to everyone who taught, mentored, and supported me. Through all of that hard work, I am now a member of the AICP College of Fellows.
My name is David Fields, FAICP and my misssion is to create places my grandparents could live.

and most importantly, Houstonians recognize they deserve transportation that works no matter how they travel: walking, rolling, riding transit, or driving. We secured $100m from the BIL plus over $30m from TxDOT to make Houston’s streets safer
There aren't enough words to recognize everyone who share this vision and continue to work to make it come true. Thank you all.
If the best time to plant a tree is 30 years ago, be proud that we did not let another day go without planting the seeds for a forest.
Through sound planning and a passionate commitment to this mission, Vision Zero Houston has led the work in reducing crashes and fatalities; we have miles of new bikeways and sidewalks thanks to the Houston Bike Plan and the Sidewalk Program;
Our streets in
@HoustonTX
are safer than they were, but we’re still working towards our goal of 0 deaths & serious injuries. Until we reach that goal, we will gather on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. REMEMBER. SUPPORT. ACT

Is there a word for the people you see on the bus/train every day, politely nod, at most say good morning, but respectfully don’t intrude on the quiet time? Feels like the Germans might have one?
Paradigms take work to shift. Big step today. Thanks to

@_laurengrove
@margwallbrown
and all project partners for this great step in making Houston’s streets safe for all.
Spoiler alert: most of the business owners on 11th are more concerned about construction than they are the design. In fact, most support the redesign. Because it's a lot easier to notice and stop at a business when you're traveling 5-10 mph than when you're traveling 35-40 mph.
+Yes we have lots more work to do, especially for ped/bike safety, but don't underestimate that "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
Help us welcome Sofie Font as a new Transportation Planner and Vision Zero Houston Coordinator! Vision Zero Houston prioritizes safety and accessibility in street design for people of all ages and abilities.

New level of sadness: Someone on Twitter just complained about Houston’s free water distribution ctrs because they interfere with the “free market” sale of water.

I’m caught in an endless loop of explaining transit’s never been a criminal’s escape plan, while acknowledging the issues if transit’s not frequent enough to be that escape plan.
Come out for Houston Healthy Outdoor Communities at Sylvester Turner Park today till 11am. Walking, biking, soccer, Zumba, plus bike helmets, bike lights and

It's a 15 minute walk to city hall from this neighborhood or a 3 minute bus ride.
Only 30 minutes via bus/light rail to the Med Center and 40 minutes to the Galleria.
If someone wants to only have 1 parking spot instead of two... that should probably be allowed.

“Houston is a destination city people want to live, want to do business, want to visit and see what it’s all about. It is impossible to be a destination at 70 miles per hour.” -

Voting now to support “More Space Main Street” pilot program authorizing closure of parts of Main St. (btwn Rusk & Commerce) for restaurants and bars to spread out patrons. 3 cheers for a more vibrant street life downtown 💃
