it’s not about an actual tone shift in the story it’s just more a point at which a lot of people realize this story isn’t just a silly cooking story. the morbid comedy is there from the jump but the falin resurrection really puts it in your face

The anime made it a lot clearer by having Luffy's heartbeat again right after Nami's wishes for it.
