I've not been on Twitter for a reason. This is a quote from Musk directly threatening with violence ordinary citizens of the UK - a country he has no connection with. He also is calling for the downfall of an elected government. Stop using Twitter.

Says it all. Switching elsewhere is the right thing to do.
This is my farewell post. I am not deleting this account, as I donβt want to lose the archive, and I donβt want my name taken by imposters. But, for as long as Musk owns the platform, Iβll no longer use it. Iβm now posting at https://t.co/Ks8LIz0Qmt. Since Elon Musk bought this

Friends, Romans, countrymen, Give up your fears... And get on over to BlueSky. There are no good reasons to continue to support Elon Musk and his deranged politics.
Just a reminder that you can find me on Bluesky. It's just like this place, but without the brainless 'patriots' who, ironically, can barely write in English. π Link here and in bio: https://t.co/tbDNBYo0E0

A thread with many sound reasons for the BBC license fee. None of them matter to someone like @zatzi who is not interested in things that make society better.

I agree that people should move to Blue Sky.
Rather than just posting on X to complain about X, come join everyone over at the other place... Not sure where to start? https://t.co/7VPoluM2d8 has collated some handy starter packs to find out who's already there: stats: https://t.co/5bxTJA26Ex stats:

4/4 There is plenty of health outcomes that can justify limiting alcohol intake without adding cancer to the list. I'm interested in the thoughts of others. @siddhartha_kar @stevesphd

3/4 However, the genetic instrument explains <0.5% of the variance in alcohol consumption. Nevertheless, I think that warnings on labels ought to be based on stronger evidence of causality.

2/4 A Mendelian Randomisation analysis of UK Biobank data with n=75k cases found little evidence to support an association for genetically predicted alcohol consumption and all cancer risk (OR = 0.95, 0.84 - 1.07) with little evidence for any specific cancers.

1/4 Lots of epi data find an association between alcohol consumption and risk of cancer and now the US Surgeon General is suggesting there should be cancer warnings on alcoholic drinks. But, are the associations causal? https://t.co/bkh1Kw1pts
reuters.com
Vivek Murthy said alcohol consumption increases the risk of at least seven types of cancer, but most U.S. consumers remain unaware of this.

Nowadays, an academic's main jobs in university are (i) to complete mandatory training courses, (ii) to answer emails & attend Teams meetings, (iii) to generate income that supports the ever growing cadre of senior administrators

Worse than being an arbitrary threshold, it is an arbitrary threshold based on a profoundly uninteresting probability. A threshold based on the probability the null is true given the data would make more sense.
"Science is neutral and apolitical" says field that bases billions of dollars in decisions on p<0.05, a threshold from 100+ years ago that everyone just uses because everybody else is using it.
