One of the most depressing things you’ll read this week.
I'm getting some confused responses to this. That's ok, the benefits system is very opaque by design, and the extent of hidden subsidies in the UK makes it hard to find out what things actually cost. So here's how a family earning £100k ends up worse off than one on welfare:.

The current UK tax system is literally structurally engineered to deliver the worst possible outcomes to both individuals and the state.
With two parents on £50k, take-home pay is £79,000. After childcare and rent, they're left with £24,800. A family on benefits renting the same house would clear £30,000 after rent with no need for childcare. You are better off on benefits than on a household income of £100k.

Even the most incompetent managers in the private sector are not this incompetent, and yet we entrust the political class and unelected civil servants with billions of dollars.
'Reno from hell: RBA’s $260m makeover blows out to $1.2b'. As if a quarter of a billion dollars wasn't already an absurdly high amount of money.

Yes, but Ireland also spends much less on social welfare as % of GDP (14% vs 23%). UK has a revenue problem AND a spending problem. But with Ireland’s rapidly changing demographics driven by mass migration it will eventually face both issues (increased costs, increased taxation).
Ireland’s corporate tax rate is 12.5% vs UK’s 25%: . Results: 🇮🇪 33% real GDP growth since 2016 (UK: 5.9%), and a €10B surplus. UK?: 🇬🇧 Deficits, ‘black hole’ and stagnation. Even if you strip out big tech, GDP per capita is much higher in Ireland. Maybe reducing taxes.
