one of the difficult parts of modern industrial manufacture is that our brains just do not have the instinctual capacity to understand what a megastructure really means. it’s not “a boat”. it’s a city block that moves. it has skyscrapers on it.
I promise I'm not trying to be cute or anything, but I guess I just thought that a bridge should be able to withstand being hit by a boat. I feel like that possibility would have been something you take into account when engineering it, hence the infrastructure funding.
