3 July 1911 | A Pole, Zbigniew Kołowski, was born in Tymbark. Polish Army officer. In #Auschwitz from 5 April 1941. No. 11264.He perished in the camp on 6 June 1942.

3 July 1944 | 9 prisoners (a Pole, a Polish Jew and 7 Russians) escaped through a 25-meters tunnel from a sub-camp of KL #Auschwitz "Eintrachthütte". Preparation to this escape lasted over 2 months.

3 July 1923 | A Polish woman, Helena Grzelec, was born in Porąbka. In #Auschwitz from 28 January 1943. No. 32034.She perished in the camp on 8 March 1943.

3 July 1951 | Tadeusz Borowski (b. 1922) died of suicide. He was a poet, writer & journalist. A prisoner of the German Nazi #Auschwitz camp (no. 119198). A lot of his post-war literature described the horrors of the camp.

3 July 1925 | Czech Jew, Jiří Schulz, was born in Prague. He was deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt ghetto on 6 September 1943. He did not survive.

3 July 1943 | A Polish man, Franciszek Kolbe, was incarcerated in #Auschwitz (no. 127600). A brother of Fr. Maximilian Kolbe. Arrested as a soldier of the Home Army in Zduńska Wola. In October 1943 transferred to KL Buchenwald. He perished in KL Mittelbau on 23 January 1945.
