3 July 1911 | A Pole, Zbigniew Kołowski, was born in Tymbark. Polish Army officer. In #Auschwitz from 5 April 1941. No. 11264.He perished in the camp on 6 June 1942.

3 July 1944 | 9 prisoners (a Pole, a Polish Jew and 7 Russians) escaped through a 25-meters tunnel from a sub-camp of KL #Auschwitz "Eintrachthütte". Preparation to this escape lasted over 2 months.

3 July 1923 | A Polish woman, Helena Grzelec, was born in Porąbka. In #Auschwitz from 28 January 1943. No. 32034.She perished in the camp on 8 March 1943.

3 July 1951 | Tadeusz Borowski (b. 1922) died of suicide. He was a poet, writer & journalist. A prisoner of the German Nazi #Auschwitz camp (no. 119198). A lot of his post-war literature described the horrors of the camp.

3 July 1925 | Czech Jew, Jiří Schulz, was born in Prague. He was deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt ghetto on 6 September 1943. He did not survive.

3 July 1943 | A Polish man, Franciszek Kolbe, was incarcerated in #Auschwitz (no. 127600). A brother of Fr. Maximilian Kolbe. Arrested as a soldier of the Home Army in Zduńska Wola. In October 1943 transferred to KL Buchenwald. He perished in KL Mittelbau on 23 January 1945.

3 July 1914 | A Dutch Jewish woman, Hanny Ourhaan-Weijl, was born in Amsterdam. In September 1942 she was deported to #Auschwitz together with her husband Maurits. They did not survive.

3 July 1921 | A Polish Jew, Ernst Steinhardt, was born in Bielsko. A technician. In #Auschwitz from 2 April 1942. No. 27767.He perished in the camp on 19 April 1942.

3 July 1927 | Dutch Jewish girl, Martha Veterman, was born in Zwolle. She was deported to #Auschwitz from #Westerbork in October 1942. She did not survive.

3 July 1921 | A Polish man, Mieczysław Ciapała, was born in Krakow. He was deported to #Auschwitz on 14 June 1940 from Tarnów in the first transport of Poles to the camp. No. 98.He perished on 3 May 1945 in the Lubeck Bay.

3 July 1932 | A German Jewish boy, Leo Klausner, was born in Frankfurt am Main. He emigrated to France. In August 1942 he was deported from Pithiviers to #Auschwitz. He was murdered in a gas chamber after the selection.

3 July 1920 | Dutch Jewish woman, Femmetje de Mesquita-Leijden van Amstel, was born in Amsterdam. She was deported to #Auschwitz from #Westerbork in October 1942. She did not survive.

3 July 1896 | A Czech Jew, Arnošt Pollatschek, was born in Prague. He was deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt Ghetto on 28 September 1944. He was murdered in a gas chamber after the selection.

2 July 1900 | Polish Jew, Alfred Gruen, was born in Warsaw. He emigrated to Italy. He was arrested in L'Aquila. He was deported to #Auschwitz from Fossoli camp on 5 April 1944. He did not survive.

2 July 1915 | Antoni Czortek, a Polish boxer was born in Buśnia. He competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In Auschwitz from 24 August 1943 .No. 139599.He boxed in the camp. He survived the Death March to KL Mauthausen where he was liberated. Czortek passed away in 2004.

2 July 1878 | Jewish woman Hanny Grunfeld was born in Satu Mare (then in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, today Romania). She emigrated to Belgium. She was deported to #Auschwitz from Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen on 24 March 1943, and murdered in a gas chamber after arrival selection.

2 July 1942 | A Hungarian Jewish girl, Éva Kohn, was born. In 1944 she was deported to #Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber.
