1/ I've spent the last 6 yrs investigating serial sexual abuse and the power structures that enable it for a doc film I’m directing, while standing against abuse within the photo industry. Given the recent ethical failings of a prominent photog and his agency, I have thoughts.

A supremely bad take here, but I'm not shocked. Same thing happened w/ VII after Kratochvil was called out. Even for hearts that initially feel in the right place, loyalty and self preservation trumps all. Any valid demands for continued accountability become seen as attacks.

It always sucks for non-complicit women / new members who have to pay the price for decades of enablement & mistakes of others. It isn't fair, but you can thank DAH & your complicit colleagues for that. It's another layer of consequence & pain that stems from serial abuse.

A child cannot be a sex worker. They are abused. Often by guys with cameras. Who put their pics on the internet.

Blinding ethical failures aside, images like this remind me of the wild public uproar after that photo of the American toddler in tornado wreckage was published in 2014. The racial double standard so many have engrained when it comes to depicting / viewing suffering is horrifying
Outing a fully identifiable 3 year old child as a rape survivor is child abuse. In the UK it is a criminal offence.
Doing it for an award is beyond comprehension.

Magnum ‘receiving no complaints’ is due to the lack of trust in their overall integrity, and a vague, non-third-party complaint protocol. They clearly don’t get how much risk it takes to report, as it’s usually a retraumatizing energy suck that either backfires or goes nowhere.

They started a new account for photography. Which has 836 followers.
