Here's what I would like. All orgs that commission, distribute and award photos of children to have a child protection policy. And for that policy to be applied irrespective of nationality of the child.

This photo that won won Environmental Photographer of the Year 2021 raises so many questions. 1: Why is the child sleeping in the sun? 2: Why is the child sleeping in an abandoned house? 3: Is it because the child is Black that the judges don't ask these questions?

So The British Journal of Photography sold out its twitter account with 250000 followers into a NFT marketing account called 'art3'. They started a new account for photography. Which has 836 followers. And in doing so destroyed their reputation and reach.

They've stripped the image of the caption. Removing it's journalistic integrity and an insult to Inas. 'Inas Abu Maamar (36) cradles the body of her niece Saly (5) who was killed, along with her mother and sister, when an Israeli missile struck their home, in Khan Younis,Gaza.'

Imagine a photog asking a traumatised white European or American woman who was raped two months previously to pose in a dark room for a portrait with a net placed over their face. No you can't. The dehumanisation of Black African women is still celebrated in photojournalism.

Look photographers. If someone is serious about searching out new work they don't ask you to pay them for the privilege of looking at your prints. They don't sit on the other side of the table from you. They open the door and start a conversation.

My youngest smashed his A Levels. I'm proud of him. But more than that I grateful to the incredible KINDNESS and DEDICATION of his teachers. They are the foundation on which the best of this country is built.
