The Mazama newt is found in only one place in the world: Crater Lake. But this tiny amphibian is disappearing, due to invasive crayfish taking over its habitat. We’ve teamed up with @NatlParkService & @HighDesertMuse to help give this rare newt-y cutie a fighting chance.

Many animals enjoy walks around the zoo for exercise and enrichment. On a recent stroll, North American porcupine Nettle stopped to say hi to Nora the polar bear. Both seemed curious about one another (and both enjoyed some tasty snacks afterward)!

Visitors to the zoo can enter the goat yard to meet the herd Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. t0 1:30 p.m. throughout the summer — Biscuit, Jam and Jelly included.

Every year, zoo conservationists “head-start” a group of these endangered turtles, caring for them until next spring when they’re big enough to have a fighting chance in the wild. Right now 17 of them are growing big and strong in the lab. Turtle power!
