pretty unfair that Kissinger got to spend the last weeks of his life watching what he loved the most (massive bombing campaigns against civilian populations)
There have been so many acts of civic vandalism in Scotland’s history, but ramming a motorway through the heart of Glasgow will probably never be topped.
Rules that could only have been devised by either Calvinists or people with big comfy houses with a lovely garden and a wine-rack — just piss off out of people’s lives, it’s been a long year and this is cruelty.
having worked in various press offices one thing I know for sure is this: a public sector statement coming out after 9pm on a bank holiday is the result of the most tortuous meetings you can imagine
It was not our intention to prevent protest. It is very clear a number of protests took place across the footprint both before, during and after the event with no police intervention.
Any suggestion all protest was prohibited is not correct.

It is enraging to see Salmond given a platform to portray himself as the victim of a ludicrously implausible conspiracy while the women in the case are marginalised and ignored.
That’s big news. Sturgeon presses Sarwar on whether a Yes majority is a mandate and he says “Of course Scotland has a right to choose and that’s what they’re doing in this election”. Glad to hear it.

The “Corbyn must not be allowed to stop Brexit in case we need to nuke someone before the end of October” crowd might be the absolutely most absurd 1% in modern British politics.
@BuserBrooks
The missionaries are carrying out an act of true evil in the lineage of the conquistadors, who destroyed culture and stole land. I pray the whole community reject their teachings and their presence.
I was at
#PrideEdinburgh
yesterday for the first time with a couple of pals, and had an absolutely lovely time. I'd hoped to meet up with another of my dearest pals, but found out she'd left early.
@mariaelenactq
I was a cleaner on a geriatric ward and when it was all done I'd hide in this old guy's room and chat and watch cricket (boring sport but better than make-work). Genuinely think the companionship was a better contribution than pretending to clean.
"It wasn’t. It was a small group of white, ostensibly middle class cis women screaming hate at us. At Pride – an event that was initially a response to police brutality against mostly black trans women."

Not that I have a dog in Labour’s internal fights but the author says it was the Corbyn-sceptical members who voted it down.
@thetimes
sure, it happens, but the ceaseless promotion of it beyond all proportionality is designed to scare trans people off from doing what they need to do, and to encourage cis people to think it’s only a phase
This is excellent news. Regan is not just massively transphobic but was also the primary promoter within the Scottish Government of measures designed to endanger sex workers (aka "The Nordic Model").
🚨 SNP Minister Ash Regan resigns over Scottish Government plans to make it easier for people to change their legally-recognised gender.
SNP MSPs were whipped to vote for the proposals today.
if your property has been empty for a year or more and you don't have a legit reason (e.g. medical) it should automatically become Council property for social housing - I can see five long-term empty flats from just outside my own
"It brought back awful memories of all the times my own gender has been policed by these fuckers. I can’t imagine how it might have made trans and non-binary community members feel."
This is not what Britain is - and not what British police are.
This is our police being used as government enforcers for a government over-obsessed with controlling culture whilst preaching an alarm around the protection of free speech.
"That was the most serious attack, but it was by no means an isolated incident. The attack by the anti-trans protesters yesterday was part of that continuum of violence."
In policy terms, the Labour/Lib/Tory deal for control of Edinburgh is a disaster for the city; the landlords and bike-haters will be in charge on everything that matters. Politically Labour will pay a high price (but it’ll be great for the Tories). Baffling decision.
every Labour "strategy paper" is like
"Broughhampton Man uses the NHS, eats toast, earns £48k and despises the poor, has a 2 year old Vauxhall Astra, thought Boris was a bit of a lad, is quite racist and homophobic, and is coming home to Labour"
@Nangela72
@MightyMightyO1
I love to hear "you don't get to discriminate against people" from the "we must be allowed to discriminate against people" crowd
a pal on a modest income, part time job, just got asked to do jury service, and if she does it, she will be left enough out of pocket to notice it .. can anyone explain why a public service like this should cost someone? why do we not just pay the whole of lost income?
"I wanted to go home at that point. But I didn’t because I was walking hand in hand with a colleague who was at his first Pride and I didn’t want to let him down."
If anyone can justify why the SNP have set up a fund for landlords while throwing tenants under the bus, please do let me know. It doesn't make sense morally, and I can't see how it makes sense politically.
polls: Salmond again an irrelevance, unlikely to win a single seat
media, pro and anti-indy alike: BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ALEX SALMOND, LET'S TALK ABOUT ALEX SALMOND AGAIN, THE WHOLE ELECTION IS ABOUT SALMOND
me: sigh
If people want a left party that is anti nuke, anti-arms trade, pro trans rights, pro sex worker rights, anti-borders, etc; may I suggest the Greens rather than dreaming of some idealised future Labour Party?
Every single positive policy change that I can think of has at least a small negative effect on the vested interests who make money at the expense of society, workers, tenants, and/or the environment. And the same tools are being used to try to stop change, over and over.
I can only assume the intern left with the password for the No account so it can’t just be deleted in its entirety; it has aged atrociously on every front
"It was going well. The vibe was good, the atmosphere was one of love. A absolute sea of lovely people, full of signs showing love for our trans friends."
And now he's setting out how he thought Nicola was going to intervene to help him by diverting all of this into mediation, which is the absolute rub of it. The behaviour described is way beyond mediation territory, and he's furious that intervention never happened.
EXCLUSIVE: ITV News has obtained evidence that it was *always* the plan to discharge Covid-19 patients into care homes.
1,800 beds were block booked in care homes by the NHS and councils for that exact purpose.
...And they’re still being discharged.
"And then I heard shouting, and I looked to the corner to see who that was. I’m used to being shouted at by the fringe Christians, so I looked over to see if it was them (again)."
"how many refugees should we take?" is a problematic framing of the issue: we are required by the 1951 Convention to give refuge to everyone who needs it and who gets here, so yes, we can proactively bring people here, but anyone else who comes must be accepted too
The PM’s planning a “Festival of Brexit Britain”: smells like those shit Winter Wonderland stories where the reindeer is a labrador with antlers glued on and the elves get lifted after a fracas with the punters.
8 years ago I got approached by a wee charity to ask if I'd freelance for them to help persuade Nicola of the merits of a better recycling system, one widely used across Europe. 6 years ago she announced it would happen. And now it's become a legit argument for independence.
‘You can have devolved powers but use them only if you do exactly what we tell you’ is not devolution in any meaningful sense. Increasingly obvious that real self government requires independence.
it is unsustainable for a party to have one MP inside a meeting, addressing a hate group, and another outside, protesting against the same hate group – something has to give
"And then the march set off. We got to the corner of the Scottish Parliament. A building and institution I love, and that always makes me feel a little bit more proud."
Some people are claiming I don’t exist. This DID happen - to me. I didn’t want to say anything as me b/c work, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to sit here and watch terfs erase my cis lesbian existence on twitter.

Yep! What about taking on some anti-racism orgs after that? Or children’s charities? Perhaps there’s a donkey sanctuary we could picket.
