Speed matters. A @Waymo vehicle was driving in a 25mph zone in LA when an oncoming car swerved into our lane while speeding up to over 70mph… 3x the speed means 9x the destructive energy. Good to see the Waymo Driver react early and safely to make room.

Institutional identity matters. This is the same issue as campus protests: if a university has a strong identity as a place of learning, and a culture where it’s understood that students sign onto this purpose, it would bound other sorts of activities more clearly.

It’s ok to not want to participate any particular set of high standards. I, and most people, don’t want to enlist in the marines, because we don’t want to live that way. Ultra elite universities should be seen in this way. Most people shouldn’t even want to attend.
These Harvard students…did not react well to the report on grade inflation: “The whole entire day, I was crying. I skipped classes on Monday, and I was just sobbing in bed because I felt like I try so hard in my classes, and my grades aren’t even the best. It just felt

my boy got a 75% on a math test where he did 100% of the math correctly - including all logical steps - because of "presentation" and "laconic response phrases" this is the dream for a disagreeable math professor mom, who has a special interest in the epistemology of math😃

Someone become Matt’s neighbor
In August we moved into a house that is yard-adjacent to our good friends who also have a child. Removed the fence between our yards, created a compound. Two houses that are adjacent are now going up for sale. Would love to extend the compound, raise more children together.

The hidden curriculum behind "AI uses too much water" lesson isn't about conservation (or factually very correct...) Instead, they're teaching kids that human progress is inherently destructive and that they should feel guilty for using resources.
This is crazy. My kids are being taught at school not to use ChatGPT and other AI tools because they use too much water. What the hell are we teaching our kids?

It’s incredibly fun to have our children freely roam between houses, experiencing slightly different norms and setups and dynamics. Recreating elements of 80s childhoods. Leander TX, children aged 2, 5, and 6 DM me if this sounds appealing to you. Opportunity is real.

Basically the only evidence mustered in this article that layoffs are being driven by AI are the layoffs at a company whose product market fit is helping students cheat on exams, which is replacing its employees who facilitate cheating with a chatbot that facilitates cheating.

I suspect I ended up a programmer because I could learn to program on my TI-83 while zoning out in class, and couldn't learn any other career that way.
