Ultimately will anything fundamentally change? Absolutely not
Training is central to doctors providing the best care for patients. The Medical Training Review, out today, is a diagnostic report with input from many doctors, medical students and patients. It shows we need to rethink many aspects of training. https://t.co/hlpO4O9Msb

This response is almost Trumpian @RCollEM has championed the tiered rota developed specifically, as far as I can see, to allow doctor substitution Twitter is bristling with receipts & many are in the🧵below I might have some respect if leaders could just be honest about it
@Molly2323232323 @RCollEM @HelenMorganMP @LibDems @DannyVet @BrianMathewLD No, we aren't. Stop spreading misinformation.

The whole system is completely unfit for purpose, and I am angrier than ever even though I personally am securely in a HST programme with CCT approaching in the next few years. 🟡From the catastrophe of rotational training and portfolio-tickbox-assessment as a core concept of
This is grim & unsustainable @RCoANews The time has long gone for platitudes & pledges Application for CT1 anaesthesia should be limited to UK-trained graduates only for the foreseeable future

🔴Side A: The total number of Physician Associate or Assistant jobs available on NHS Jobs -at the moment- is Zero Locally trained PAs have no jobs to go to And we have an open market for Kenya to come and compete 🔵Side B: Locally trained Doctors don't have jobs Thus, IMGs are
Clinical Officers in Kenya win big as the UK opens the door for Kenya’s clinical officers to practice as physician assistants. A step in the right direction.

You can bet the med reg, anaesthetist, ortho, paeds etc. being assigned extra duties here haven't been consulted about it. This is what happens. Management decide they won't pay to fill a gap, consultants decide who should pick up the pieces (not them) and juniors get f*cked.

A H/T to @Mike88881221 for this Freedom of Information Request And thanks to @NHSEngland for replying Circa 62 million£ spent in training of PAs/AAs over last 3 years. Sixty-Two Million. Rather than create more jobs for doctors- who are now out of jobs Beyond even that
🚨 NEW: FOI response shows @NHSEngland has spent £62 million on training Physician Associates and Anaesthesia Associates over the last three years. £54.3m on PAs. £8m on AAs. 💰 They’re also directly funding salaries for PA and AA 'ambassadors' - £275k and counting

So @gmcuk refuses to work with any of the medical royal colleges or the BMA, but shacks up with a private limited company run by a barely qualified non practicing PA. @AskJeevesWij @drcolinm what on earth are you doing?
Responding to the publication of the @gmcuk’s good practice advice for doctors who supervise and work with PAs: ‘It is disappointing that this new resource from the GMC allows for the supervision of PAs by other healthcare professionals and doctors in training – we drew a firm

@DrLukeCraddock @TheBMA i think the GMC needs a complete clearout of the senior leadership team because the current incumbents not only don't care but are actively, defiantly aggressive/performatively indifferent And any replacements need to include still clinically-working medics

So in short: the GMC only want to 'engage' with a choir of Yes men and avoid all scrutiny. Cowardly move yet not surprising given the current crop of so called 'leaders'
We will no longer be posting on Twitter/X as we’re focusing on platforms where we can engage more effectively with our audiences and provide information to support our registrants, patients, and the public. We’ll keep our account to stay up to date on key issues and to help

This is so wildly disingenuous, @gmcuk. You've just been exposed as employing social media specialists to monitor doctors' criticisms of your actions & shape your subsequent strategy. Indeed, I understand I'm one of the doctors you've been spying on - presumably since I have
@drmattuk @Mike88881221 Hi @drmattuk and @Mike88881221 like most organisations we reflect on social media posts we’ve been tagged in, or those which are receiving high levels of interest. This helps us identify topics or issues to communicate with our audiences – whether that’s via social media or other

🧵/ This is, I believe, unprecedented in the history of UK medicine. 28 eminent UK doctors have written publicly to @LaylaMoran, the new chair of @CommonsHealth, to report something nothing less than scandalous. Read their letter here (1/n) 👇 https://t.co/qh5iZj7Xnj

There was potential for so much more creativity by negotiating pay, exams, portfolio and GMC fees etc with a commitment to a pathway to FPR. This would have made the abysmal pay offer more palatable. Reject ❌
🚨 Junior doctors receive new £1bn pay offer - an approx 20% overall pay rise over 2 years. @BMA_JuniorDocs have agreed to put it to members. If they vote yes, it will end the dispute. @Steven_Swinford reveals:

You won’t remember, but in 2006/7 you threatened to kick me out of medschool at the end of the 4th year. My crime? I failed the cardiology module following a head injury which meant I missed a significant part of the clinical teaching. I was awarded NO sympathy. I was told
@Dr__Sarmy No it isn’t. Why do you think it is? Come on, explain yourself please. Fully, chapter and verse. Not just anecdote or assertion. Happy to receive direct argument: polite only please. At j.v.parle@bham.ac.uk
