UK Medical Licensing Assessment vs PA National Exam 🤔 Spot a difference?

Today I heard an EM ACP tell a medical student they’re ‘equivalent to an ST3 with credentialing’, and I read an UGI Endoscopy report by the ‘Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner’ 😂 #AskForADoctor

A radiographer teaching an advanced nurse practitioner about heart failure and how to interpret chest X-rays? What’s going on here?

The entitlement in this country is insane 😂 Every patient I meet with this kind of mentality also refuse to pay for anything themselves. You can get a service like this if you pay for a private doctor - not on the NHS
@DrSteveTaylor “Core hours”. The arrogance of GPs to think we still live in the 1940s. GPs should be accessible round the clock, 24/7 that is true universality. Nobody cares if the GP is in the UK, or around the world. Help at the point of need. Welcome to the modern world Doc.

London Locum Rates (from Reddit) London is the epitome of the rat race - and I feel bad for every doctor working for these crumbs

Drs shouldn't respect anyone who believes a healthcare bachelor’s degree, AHP experience, & a part-time modular MSc qualify them to do the work of a fully trained Dr. Such beliefs insult the yrs of rigorous medical training, dedication, & responsibility that define medicine.

@kcisc What is a ‘consultant ACP’ a consultant in? Are they a consultant in their base profession, or the equivalent of an EM consultant? How do they obtain specialist registration and what qualifications do they have?

The nursing degree is focused on patient ‘care’. There is no/minimal medical content within this course - ask any nurse you meet to interpret or even explain what an ECG is. This charade is actually disrespectful to Drs’ intelligence and commitment.

@therawlucy Right so you should be able to see that there is much cause for concern from many doctors who want to train that there are situations where it has been deemed appropriate by some that nurse consultants are considered legitimate to supervise registrars for outpatient clinics.

In the UK, it is easier to find a nurse trying to provide medical care, than one who can take bloods / place a cannula.

What a take 😂 I personally find this comment disrespectful toward my colleagues. When did respect for doctors and their training get so low that someone would rather have a nurse do an angio over the consultant (doctor)
@guidelinexpert Absolutely and as a result ANPs become very expert across a narrow range of procedures. I would prefer my radial coronary angiogram sheath to be delivered by my senior nurse than an early SpR and even some consultants!! Plenty of senior nurses have dug registrars out of a hole.

This happens simply because these ANPs stay in teams longer than trainees. After 10 years - she still works with the same consultants, but they’re on their 50th ST6. Gives a false equivalence I’ve seen it myself - an ANP made a ‘Registrar’ for the day because of poor staffing
Consultant Nurse Kate wants to leave the NHS because she lacks a registrar to supervise today: they’re busy with the trauma list at the main hospital! Tough day, Kate? 🙄

Very concerning for any future deal that relies on promises of change
Last year's doctor pay deal has been completely broken. Exception reporting reform - paying doctors for the hours they work - has been kicked into the long grass. This was initially meant to be implemented December 2024. Still no end date in sight. https://t.co/QHaHTXK3gI

AI drafts a d/c letter that requires a resident and consultant review 😂 Where is the efficiency gain? when it adds additional work for the most senior clinician, and the original drafter still has to edit it! @iDrSunny give us a business perspective

@wesstreeting you said that you would act immediately. There is a new job advert on @NHS_Jobs and other new job adverts online for PAs to diagnose undifferentiated patients. Patients are still in danger When will you act ? https://t.co/v3i0kVONUo
I took seriously the concerns being raised with me about physician associate roles and commissioned Gillian Leng to do a proper review that followed the evidence. Now I will act - starting immediately. https://t.co/K0nG3dsaXy

UMAPs threatening to sue any Trust or PCN that follows the leng review guidance Good Job PAs earn so much - looks like they’ll be burning through their pay packets to fight this out with everyone. Or they could accept the glass ceiling that’s coming in…
**Breaking** UMAPS has LOST its application for an interim injunction, pending the hearing of its JR claim, to stop NHSE / SoS from implementing the Leng Recommendations. UMAPS wanted an interim injunction to preserve the current status quo (& uncertainties) pending the

If you’re A level results are disappointing, don’t worry. I got straight A*s / As, went to medical school and started on £15/hour.
