take it from someone who’s had 21 days of strike action this year: when you’re in quarantine you’re not going to get all those jobs done around the house that you’ve been putting off. you’re going to invent a new breakfast cereal by combining 3 existing types of breakfast cereal.

A squirrel once stole a baguette literally out of my mouth as I tried to eat my lunch in Russell Square, but I still mostly blame myself because I was very hungover and too weak to resist.

On the plus side I played Patriarchy Chicken on the train platform this morning, and a man in a suit was so confused that I didn’t step out of the way for him that he stopped dead in front of me and flapped his mouth like a fish

The awarding of U grades in all this has been one of the most pernicious unfairnesses. Deciding the lowest student(s) in a class would have completely flunked an exam that DID NOT EXIST because a kid in that school did two years ago is inhumane.

Essentially, several years ago someone got a U at her school for maths. She was ranked bottom of her class for maths. She was still predicted a B or a C but was at the bottom. Ofqual decided, therefore, someone from the school needed to get a U and it was her.

On another essay it has highlighted, in red, every footnote and in-text reference to @GabeMoshenska as clearly plagiarised.

I GENUINELY used 'a WW2 plane bombs the White Cliffs of Dover with poppies' in a seminar years ago as an imagined example of possible future bad-taste jingoism. I can't believe someone found my notes.

It is 100 years since the first two-minute silence was observed on Armistice Day on 11 November 1919. Today, an original Second World War Dakota dropped 750,000 poppies over the White Cliffs of Dover. Read more on #RemembranceSunday commemorations here:

(It's important to note -- for the nervous students QTing the individual tweet in particular -- that I definitely don't think the original essay is 11 per cent plagiarised and I'm ignoring the score. Turnitin is a robot but your lecturers are humans!)

Statues are not neutral spaces of “history”, statues of individuals can pretty much only be read as positive depictions in the context of what statues are for and how they function, leaving a statue standing is as political as pulling a statue down.

small brain: make-up is anti-feminist big brain: make-up is empowering! galaxy brain: the demand that women should question every little aspect of their lives in a desperate audit of what is or is not a tool of the patriarchy is, itself, a tool of the patriarchy

On what planet is this a balanced panel to discuss politics? I know it’s Channel 4 but this is something else. 5 people who are openly left wing activists or Labour Party commentators and then the poor Clare Balding who will have to listen to them all night.

At this point, there’s basically an inverse relationship between how much someone is wanging on about the Second World War and how much they actually know about it.

Genuinely fascinated by how much centrists hate Shelley’s poetry when they think it was written by Corbyn. It says a lot about cultural capital, and about who is allowed to enjoy The Arts, I think!

Ryan Giggs trial, day 10. Another poem. Gushing messages between Mr Giggs and Kate Greville continue. During which, he called her “the jam in my doughnut, the salt in my tequila, the truffle in my pasta”. And, more Ryan Giggs poetry. Live here -
