In this decade I've moved from London to Toronto and back home to Vancouver. With each unpacking, I found new and different pleasures in life and work. I am grateful for it all as
#2020
approaches. Happy New Year to all may we have happiness and less division in our world.
Sad to learn John Mann of
@sotw
has died, too soon at 57. Powerful songwriter, performer and person. Sympathies to his wife Jill Daum, family, bandmates, friends. His music was the soundtrack to a good chunk of my life. John's gone home.

We are expanding to one hour this weekend
@cbcwhatonearth
to investigate the causes of the

Also congratulations to my friend

I've reported from countries where people have no vote or no meaningful vote. And from countries where people are voting in a real election for the first time - lining up patiently for hours on end, excited to cast a ballot. Don't take it for granted.

All the praise
@caroloffcbc
gets is so deserved. The team is great, the show is wonderful but the host's role is intense. Carol has always been intelligent, unafraid, funny, empathetic and dogged. We have been lucky to have her.
A bit of good news. I just went to
@CanadasLifeline
in
#yvr
to give blood and the nurses said they were seeing many donors. Give blood. It'll make you feel better.
My Dad's memorial plaque at Juno Beach is inscribed with this. Thanks Dad.

Hey all you
@cbcwhatonearth
fans ( and those yet to be fans ). Great news! We're expanding to an hour each week and will be on at 11 am ( 11:30 am ) in
#Nfld
starting April 24 - podcast version available around then too!
We'll also look at the trauma these disasters cause and find out how people can seek and find support. All this as we expect more frequent and intense storms with a warming planet. Sunday 11 am, 11:30 in Newfoundland.
This week
@cbcwhatonearth
is into power: power grids. Climate change is bringing more frequent harsher storms, meaning more potential for blackouts, brownouts and chaos. Witness Texas just weeks ago. Have you lived through a power outage? Share your memories with us here.
While it is good to be home in
#yvr
the return coincides with an "atmospheric river"- heavy rain - and my first heavy cold in ages. A day to stay under the duvet.

I salute the intimacy and power of radio to bring the world to you and me. And this past year is special because I helped create and now host

Listening to my sister telling her grandson a story via Zoom cause she has to distance. I know how she aches to hug him, but right now they are laughing together. Sister be my hero.
Just saw a lovely email sent to
@TheCurrentCBC
thanking me for an interview from today’s program. Except she called me Anna Maria. Change is hard especially when you’re following
@amtremonti
Good morning. Back
@TheCurrentCBC
for 3 weeks ( minus a couple of days when you'll hear wonderful
@AnthonyGermain
). Starting off today with a conversation about racism and how to tackle it.
How lucky am I? I am so lucky that I am about to interview Beverly McLachlin - former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court - for the second time this year! This evening
@VanWritersFest
. Guaranteed to be fascinating and fun.
#HelsinkiSummit
| "It makes me sick, to tell you the truth."

helped bring Reagan and Gorbachev together for a historic meeting in 1986. He called today's Trump-Putin summit in Helsinki "ridiculous."
Get ready, The first episode of "What on Earth" airs today on CBC Radio one at 10:30 local time, 11:00 in Newfoundland. We're looking at the pandemic and climate change - can Covid provide some solutions for our warming planet.
@cbcwhatonearth
It's so lovely to have been in
#yvr
for a few days to be part of
@VanWritersFest
. Makes up for the hard turn of early rising for
@TheCurrentCBC
this morning! As does interviewing another author
@_kevindonovan
about his new book on the Barry and Honey Sherman murdrers.

I've tried this with my 93 year old uncle ( who is intellectually fine ) but he can't grasp the technology. He lives alone, so I'm still planning to get him out for occasional drives/walks. But no stores for him.
Calling all
@cbcwhatonearth
listeners. I'm giving a talk on "how Canadians think about climate change and sustainability" and I'm ready for your feedback! Go!
