🚨JOB OPENING 🚨
Myers Park HS in Charlotte is on the hunt for their first full time S&C Coach. New Director would become the sixth full time S&C Coach in public schools in NC, the fifth position created like so this year.
Details 👇🏼👇🏼
PSA for all sports coaches and athletes:
If you’re lucky enough to have a full time S&C coach at your school, help them feel appreciated.
There is no offseason. The stress you feel during the season? That’s daily and multiplied daily in S&C.
Know that it is not easy.
PSA for all the coaches that had players cramp last night:
You don’t need more conditioning. You need more games under your belt.
Psychological demands of gameplay causes more cramping than physiological ever will.
All I can say is THANK YOU!
This community has been such a blessing to be a part of. 💜
January 19th will be my last day in purple.
To the next chapter…
Honored to be given this opportunity to continue to build a special program in a special place!
I can’t thank the AK community enough for all they gave me these last two years.
Let’s get to work! ⚔️
Thrilled to announce that Coach Kyle Jacksic is joining us at CCS as our Director of Athletic Performance! Excited to have his energy and wealth of knowledge on campus to continue to grow our student-athletes and build upon Coach Lewis’ work over the last 3 years! Go Knights!
Here’s what a daily, after-school lift has to look like for us.
Our kids have to be able to flow to different spots for different exercises.
Do I see every rep? Nope. Is every rep perfect? Far from it.
But there is no excuse for me to think I CAN’T train them to me.
Part of me breaks when I talk to female athletes from other schools when they say they can’t get into their weight room at school because it’s ’only for the guys’ or better yet ‘football only’.
2023 and we got future college athletes that can’t get the basic needs they need…
One of my favorite variations to replace Oly lifting is our DB Jump Series. This lets us check some boxes of force production (and dissipation) with non-countermovement, countermovement, and ‘drop in’ work.
Weight dictated by how high their verticals are.

One day we’ll get better. Or maybe there won’t be anyone here to coach them!

“Coach is there anyway I can raise my grade from an F in your class?”
So you want to raise your grade after you did the bare minimum in a class that is extremely dictated on participation, following class standards and rules, and respecting others?
🤔🤔🤔
When I started here just over a year ago, I remember presenting our welcome presentation in front of roughly 15 girls.
Today we had over 50 training at the same time.
This is what I dreamed of for this place.
Our jobs are nothing if there’s no athletes to coach!
What an amazing facility to play host for the
@NSCA
NC State Clinic!
Dr. Mike Young from Athletic Lab has rolled out the red carpet for us.
Excited for this room to fill up to learn! We’re going to lock it down with my presentation after lunch 💪🏻
Power.
Because of space and time constraints, we do not go through any true Olympic lifting. We utilize the trap bar a ton in our program, usually leading to a trap bar speed pull at its heaviest, effecting different ranges of the force velocity curve.
Rhythm and timing.
The sport of baseball has a lot of rhythm and timing components to it. Training these concepts in a closed setting can be important for off-season development.
Here is a timed pogo to rotational slam:
A lot to be thankful for back at work today and doing what I love to do.
48 hours ago I decided that meeting a concrete wall head on was how I wanted to spend my evening.
Be thankful for the people around you daily. A millisecond or an inch one way can be a difference maker.
Fuel is in for our athletes to have better access to what they need throughout the day thanks to Power Locker! Can’t wait to get the machine up and running next week!

I don’t see how the administration of North Carolina schools can continually see the states bordering us and convince ourselves we’re not selling our students and athletes short with our facilities
It’s the time of year that you have sweatshirts everywhere in your office.
Because you wear them to work and then you don’t need them to leave. So then you have to wear a different one the next day.
A vicious process.
A part of me was left on the field tonight. This picture was taken during our first training session together. Almost ten months ago.
I knew this team could be special and I believe we showed that tonight, no matter what the scoreboard said.
Last night, after a late night of training, my wife and I were able to sit down and talk through what it’s like to be leaving a place like AK.
I scrolled and scrolled through pictures and videos and marked out a few that made me reminisce.

There are visible physical differences between basketball teams that take pride in the weight room and those who don’t at the high school level.
The old school way is old school now. Train ‘em.
Q4) What type of signage do you have posted in the weight room or locker room that helps affirm and remind athletes of their abilities, worth, etc?
#ironspeedchat
It’s impossible to get every single team and exercise into one place, but I am absolutely ecstatic about how our summer program turned out.
We were able to have over 500 different athletes through our doors. It doesn’t happen without investment.
Proud to be a part of AK! ⚔️
Went full nerd for my presentation at the
@NHSSCA
PA State Clinic today! Tremendous day of learning alongside some of my best friends in this field. Looking forward to continuing to promote everything we do at Ardrey Kell all across the country!
If you ever wonder if coaching high school is worth it:
I had a freshman girl RDL 135x5 with a 5 second eccentric in class.
She is now free style rapping waiting to transition to second block.
It’s the Wild Wild West at the HS level.
A strength coaches impact is far beyond the weight room.
If you’re affecting over 5 times the population a normal teacher is on a weekly basis, you probably want a good one in your high school, right?
Makes sense to me 🤔
Two of our weight room standards are ‘Tell the Truth’ and ‘Walk Along Side.’ Had two rising seniors take a kid who just walked in the door last week under their wing today. Told him take the weight off the bar and learn the movement first. Little by little!
@ArdreyKellHS
Pretty cool to hang up our
@NHSSCA
All-American certificates in our facility today alongside our original two from last year.
Even more excited to honor these athletes again at
#NatCon
out in Chicago on Thursday night!
Today we:
- Put over 200 athletes through the door in less than three hours
- Assessed multiple MRI readings alongside our AT
- Helped an athlete find a meal to eat
- Ran multiple GPS reports
- Took recording of a RPR warmup
But tell me how HS S&C is entry level and easy…
It’s official!
Ardrey Kell is partnering with
@OutputSports
to bring the best and brightest technology to the fingertips of our student-athletes as we continue to push ourselves to being the best we can possibly be!
Big thank you to
@AaronLarmore
for the help!

@clh_strength
Most of it is slow, training for maximal strength work.
Not a whole lot of true speed training, both on the field and in the weight room.
Proper ESD is obsolete.
Football is a force sport, not a strength sport.
Just got home from up north and right back to it tomorrow in Wilmington, NC at the NC Athletic Directors Association State Convention speaking on why more schools NEED a S&C professional in the school!
Little by little 📈📈
We all want our student-athletes to be the hardest workers around.
But are you, the leader of your program, the hardest worker around?
Can’t expect your kids to live by it if you don’t hold up the other end of the bargain.
Some of the “outside the box” things going into our next phase of baseball programming this spring.
There’s a large life outside the barbell if you seek it.
She’s baaaaaaack.
Very excited to announce
@kenzie_kelleher
will be back helping out the purple and black as our Sport Science Director moving forward.
Coach Kelleher will be directly responsible for all science initiatives and growth as we move into the new age!
📈⚔️
Amazing opportunity to continue a tremendous program.
A position like this does not come around very often, especially in an area like South Charlotte.
Would be more than happy to answer any question about any detail to it. ⚔️
🚨 JOB OPENING 🚨
Ardrey Kell High School, South Charlotte, NC, has an IMMEDIATE opening for a Director of Strength & Conditioning position.
AK is currently the largest high school in the state of North Carolina and is consistently ranked in the highest percentage academically.
Put the mic down for the final time as a part of
@LynchburgSports
tonight. I just want to thank all the athletes that allowed me to be a part of some of the most memorable moments of my four years here.
#ThankYou
Some training highlights from these last few weeks.
Time and time again I look back on these highlights and say “yeah that looks good.”
But what I like the most are the small moments that you see of the connection and focus between teammates.

Excited to be writing for the

Be on the lookout for my first publication next month 👀
Yesterday we said see you soon to our
@AKSportsInfo
intern class.
The growth that I found in myself probably outweighs the growth they found in themselves.
We had over 500 different athletes through our doors, with really no hiccups.
Thank you for all that you did for us!
It’s always a special time to share when your student-athletes sign their NLI!
Want to give a special shoutout to
@TaylorSuarez24
! Her impact in this community will be hard to ever be replicated. Thank you for your belief in everything we’ve built. Lets go Noles!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Liberty U next month! Very excited to be giving my presentation on how we assess and develop the foot to be fast between the lines and what makes certain athletes stand out!

Anyone else got athletes that just tell you the most random things at random times?
“Coach, you want to know what I brought for lunch today?”
Sure. I would love to know. Give me the hard hitting news
2022 was a huge year of growth in life for my life and career.
After a lot of thought and pushing from a load of people, I’m ready to roll out what I believe in and put it in the hands of people all around the country.
So you’re telling me your five sets of 5+ cleans followed by 4x10 every leg accessory you think of that day DIDN’T keep your kids backs healthy?
But it’s
#offseason
right?
Last year I posted our summer offseason plan for football, so I figured I’d toss ours up again this year.
Super excited to get rolling with our summer offseason group this week—it’s the best time of year!
📈
This year I will be presenting at the NCADA Convention on the impacts having a full time strength & conditioning professional available to ALL teams can benefit a program, department, and school.
I’m asking student-athletes, parents, coaches, staff, etc. to help out.
One of the most painful things about being a coach is watching one of your athletes be hurt emotionally.
Tell your athletes you love them and you’re proud of them. You never know what it could mean
Interns talking through micro- and macrocycles this morning!
Truly believe we run one of the more complete internship programs in the country to prepare the future of human performance.
3 interns from last years class landed full time S&C jobs! 📈
“Feel that difference?” is a cue I find myself using more and more while adjusting in-set. A little bit of confirmation goes a long way for both people involved
