You fully believe in vaccination and are vaxxed yourself. You touch base with a friend who says they’re not vaxxed and have no plans to be. You love this person with your whole heart but also now realize how differently you see the world. They’re smart & educated. What do you do?
I love Turkey BUT this makes me SO ANGRY. Every weekend without fail this park is littered with trash from ppl who come and leave their rubbish exactly where they were sitting. It’s disgusting. And so disrespectful of the environment 🤬 can someone pls explain the mindset
And before my kiwi followers jump to the ol' 'America is broken thank God we're alright here in Godzone', the only reason more brown people aren't killed in NZ is because most officers don't carry guns. Māori are still 7x more likely than Pākehā to be victims of police violence.
I know I’m a few days behind but how 🤮 is it that 100% of HR staff at Mediaworks were women… women that brushed off, hushed up, swept under the carpet allegations of harassment and abuse. Yuck.
I’ve never felt as alienated from my fellow New Zealanders as when I read the comments section on any story about NZ citizens paying for quarantine on their return. Honestly it’s like everyone is bitter at kiwis who leave the country. Tall Poppy syndrome in its extreme 😢
I’m excited for the day when TV execs in Aotearoa stop giving so much airtime to right wing white men whose aim is to engender anger among viewers, and instead give women and POC prime time positions. Name 1 woman or POC who is the central person in a mainstream TV/radio show
whenever I feel down I remember the time my Dad drove me 3 hours from my home town, paid for us to stay in a motel (even though we were broke), all so I could audition for NZ Idol. i did not make it through the first round because I was actually awful. that's love

I CAN FINALLY TELL YOU! The big day is here! Today we launch REUTERS WORLD NEWS - the podcast 🎤
We have a crack team of producers, and get to utilize

2500 award winning, scoop getting, boots on the ground journos. 6am ET Mon-Fri. Listen here:
I really hate news stories where you have to read between the lines to figure out what the hell is going on. This Kiri Allan story is a prime example.
It seems like one of her staffers just didn't vibe with the work environment so left. Happens often. Is there more to it?
Everyone is following this missing submersible. It's trending everywhere. People are listening to our podcast just to hear about it.
But what about this. HUNDREDS of people are still missing off the coast of Greece. More than 80 are dead.
🔉Why was no expense or resource spared in searching for the submersible - but hundreds of people are still missing at sea off after their boat sank near Greece?
We explore why this apparent double standard is allowed to exist.

One year since I joined
@AJEnglish
as an anchor in Doha. It’s such a pleasure to work for a network where I truly believe in the journalism, and get to work with talented professionals to tell stories that really do matter. Photo of me leaving for work on my first day 😬
I love Ryan Bridge and think he’d be AMAZING as The AM show permanent host … but I’m wondering… has there ever been a woman lead host in a Breakfast show in like, NZ’s entire TV history?
If this photo gets 1000 likes I will push my way through the media throng to get a selfie with Austin Butler and promise to film the entire thing

Remember: it doesn't matter how successful, famous, rich or driven you are. In the end, all the matters is: were you kind? Did you strive to lift others up or bring them down? Questions we should all bear in mind, every day. We'll always fall short, but we should always try.
It can feel hard to contribute to te ao Māori living abroad. But then I remembered I host a

Sorry but if you think Māori experience any sort of privilege you’re in the wrong place. Please educate yourself on our history and kindly unfollow.
I’m so homesick but barely have enough leave to spend 2 weeks in quarantine and definitely can not afford the $3000 that quarantine costs in NZ. I know it’s a big Boo hoo compared to the worlds problems but thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
Two things:
1. Leah is a kickass journalist and a brilliant colleague and this would have taken an extraordinary amount of bravery to come forward about.
This
@nzherald
headline threw me.
“The world reacts to protesters setting parliament lawn ablaze”.
As someone who works in global news, I can confirm the world is much more concerned with Russia’s literal war on Ukraine. Shelling cities. Killing 2000 CIVILIANS. Advancing on Kyiv.
I can absolutely guarantee there are so many people who would love to come forward about sexual assault or harassment in the media in NZ, but who have received the message either explicitly or silently that would jeopardise their careers. Kia kaha to the women coming forward.

Going on 2 hours hitting refresh trying to get a booking for 'managed isolation' aka a room in a hotel in New Zealand so I can go home. Still nothing. Send me your well-wishes tweeps this could be a long week / month
It’s one year today since I had a life altering ankle surgery, which led to me developing a rare chronic pain condition called CRPS. Today I rode in my first spin class since surgery. I wasn’t sure I’d ever walk properly again let alone do the things I loved. It’s a good day
How have you monitored / changed / reduced your exposure to the news? And why?
I know I’m a journalist but I promise I won’t be offended. I’m hearing it more and more and I’m curious as to your stories. HMU
And I don’t mind paying for quarantine but there’s not even any price options or the option of self isolation at home after a negative test. Paying $3000 to go home - and it will always be my home - is *mental*
Getting back into Doha was an epic glimpse into how smooth travel can be when nations implement smooth clear processes. Exceptional entry permit, vaccination docs already on the system… in and out of the airport in 30 minutes with no quarantine. Well done

ROTD (realization of the day) be wary of any man who describes his exes as crazy. It’s only a matter of time before he does the same to you. Or in my case I come to realize with time that his exes are actually all lovely stable complex wahines ... the kind of women I love!

Happy 2023 folks! For your entertainment here’s a clipping from mum’s archives. Pls note the creepy AF photo caption, and remember I was 17 years old at the time 💀
Is it just me or is the same NZ media outlets / journos who basically ran campaigns for the government to release people in quarantine on compassionate grounds now questioning WHY they government listened?
2. Pretending presenters are just autocue readers is a cowardly attempt to avoid taking responsibility for a blaring power imbalance. My colleagues are the most talented journalists who have decades of experience before they get in the chair and are undoubtably looked up to
Finishing up a rough week... attended my first Zoom funeral (my grandad) which really made coronavirus hit home for me. Being separated from family at times like this is no fun. Corona be gone so I can get home to my beloved Aotearoa
Putin breaks his silence after the revolt. But questions remain:
Did he really not intervene to avoid bloodshed?
Who truly brokered the deal for Prigozhin?

Happy Birthday Al Jazeera! 25 years since Al Jazeera Arabic burst on to the scene, followed by
@AJEnglish
10 years later. Disrupting mainstream news, going where other networks don’t, covering all sides of the story. I’m proud to have worked here.
Just reflecting on the fact that I consciously dressed ‘professionally’ today so the new doctor I saw would take me and my complaints seriously.
I’m a 34 year old woman who is also a news anchor on a major international network.
Something is wrong.
@Fitzy191
Can’t understand what we’ve been through?! The rest of the world has also been in lockdown! The lockdown where I’ve been has been triple the length and severity. So yes, we *do* know
The level of paranoia focused on MIQ in New Zealand is something else, truly. I’m genuinely nervous about being treated like a pariah when I come home! Even after getting vaccinated and spending two weeks and $8000NZD on isolation. Key word: ISOLATION
I am watching TVNZ's One News and I am absolutely fan-girling over the journos I used to work with. NZ you are lucky to have such talented people!
@MaikiSherman
- badass political reporter (who has not aged a single day in like 10 years).
@ldaviesonenews

NZ is covid-free and vaccine rollout is basically only just getting started. Meanwhile the rest of the world is battling Covid infections among the vaccinated, thanks to Delta. Ever thought about what that means when the country 'reopens' in 2022?
I know it’s not all men but every time another story comes out about a dude in power doing yuck stuff esp involving young girls im always like URGH Why do men have to be so gross

You know what sucks? The lack of indigenous representation in the international journo circuit. But no one speaks of inequality in our field. Like the fact that you were raised by diplomat parents, lived around the world, went to the best international schools so now speak five..

No way. This is how partisan divides grow, by refusing to even engage with people we love if they choose differently. We may be diametrically opposed on this thing, but we have 20 years of friendship. That’s not nothing.

In tears watching Take Care of Maya. When I was finally diagnosed with CRPS I faced SO many people - doctors, colleagues, friends - who didn’t know, understand or believe me. Watching how those doctors treated her, and what happened as a result, is heartbreaking.
New Zealand is on the same path as the US.
Say you’ll be ‘tough on crime’ regardless of the actual crime statistics to win votes.
Forget putting funding into preventative measures like housing or education. That’s too complicated for people to get their heads around apparently
New Zealanders are fed up with brazen offending.
Today I announced National will implement stronger sentences for convicted criminals, to restore law and order and make our communities safer.
We will limit the ability of judges to reduce sentences, we’ll make gang membership…
Why are so many ppl in NZ getting angry about coronavirus cases being *found* in people returning in isolation facilities? It means the system is working! And for those who think NZ should simply shut out its own citizens 🙄🙄🙄
Feeling for you NZ! The rest of the world knows exactly how this feels - the start of a serious outbreak. Hopefully this WON'T be that.. but we understand how the uncertainty feels. You got this x
It is so surreal to see NZers just going about normal life. Going to Christmas parties. Going to gigs. Planning family get togethers. Not worried about whether to hug someone or not. Taking selfie’s of mask wearing because it’s still novel 😭😭😭

Some confusion around the death toll in Ukraine. The State Emergency Service said 2000, but has since removed the statement. The UN High Commission for Human Rights says at least 500. Fair to say that until the Russian bombardment ends, civilians will continue to be killed.
So someone made a trolling video about me. Apparently I’m whatever the opposite of a womanizer is, with a penchant for married men, who slept their way up the ladder. News to me 🤣 love my fans

I‘ll be taking a deep dive into a story which has shaken me as a kiwi: the Christchurch mosque attacks. Tune in over the next few hours if you’re in NZ and want different perspectives to the local media, issues of racism, islamophobia and white supremacy
Is it the color of their skin? Is it the frequency with which these overcrowded boats sink? Is it because we refuse to summon the empathy to care that people are fleeing poverty and war and famine for a chance at a decent life?
Shout out to all the kiwi journos who will be working through the night. Remember: Help where you can. Take drinking water. Don’t put yourselves in danger. NZ thanks you for the crucial information you put out.
