one simple reason Chinese classics feel secular is that their titles are translated to English imagine if books from the Vedic canon were titled "Question Session", "Other's Burgeoning", "Partridge's Domestic Thread" these are real translations, plz try guessing the Sanskrit!

In ~680 AD, Yijing traveled from Tang China to study at Nālandā. To teach Sanskrit to the Chinese, he annotated 千字文 (their ~alphabet) with Siddham. Unfortunately, modern editions seem to have numerous errata and Prakritisms (nikkala < niṣkala, savyarahara < saṃvyavahāra)!

Some errors were likely introduced by copyists unfamiliar with Sanskrit in the last 1300 years (e.g. dropping bindu & v->r in saṃvyavahāra). Others (e.g. nikkala for "to exit" c.f. निकलना) are glimpses into the Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit taught in Magadha under the Later Guptas.
