The Fingleton Review exposed how a focus on 'process over outcome', has made Britain the most expensive place in the world to build nuclear power stations. The PM now wants to apply the lessons to the whole of the UK economy. Here's 3 places to start: - Building Safety: 30,000

This was a damaging budget for the cost of living and growth, but also for climate action. 👇Read our @CEN_HQ response below on why the Chancellor needed to bolder on cutting electricity prices

I agree. But it makes zero economic sense for the costs of producing future taxpayers - i.e. having babies - to be almost fully privatised, while the funding of old age is completely socialised. It is either your responsibility to provide for yourself and your family or it isn’t.
“It’s a matter of fairness” Shadow chancellor Mel Stride defends the two-child benefit cap and says “if you want a much larger family, then I think individual responsibility should come into play” #BBCLauraK

This is so wrong and so infuriating that we’re spending our time getting angry with the messaging rather than the policy itself. Breakfast clubs are a good thing but why on earth should they be free for people who can afford them? Just cut taxes instead.
What would you do with an extra 30 minutes in your day? 🤔 Free breakfast clubs are transforming mornings for 500,000 children - that's 95 precious hours back each year while children get a nutritious start to their day. Part of our Plan for Change ✨

The Government's Chagos surrender deal risks an environmental disaster in the Indian Ocean. Ecosystems are fragile and the 640,000 square km Marine Protected Area in the Indian Ocean has flourished into one of the most remarkable natural sanctuaries in the world under British

This is a great piece by my fellow classicist @Katie_Lam_MP Subjects like Latin will forever remain the territory of the elite if we don’t make them available and stop the ignorant nonsense that they aren’t for everyone.
I was so lucky the comprehensive school I went to offered Latin. Mr Bathurst, the only teacher left from the grammar school, insisted on teaching it. He read Classics at Cambridge - and because of him, so did I. As I wrote in @ConHome, that sort of education is for everyone 👇

Whatever international action we agree upon to deal with environmental problems, we must enable all our economies to grow and develop because without growth you cannot generate the wealth required to pay for the protection of the environment.

I am anti death penalty but the sheer horror in the Chamber when an MP suggested reintroducing it was quite extraordinary given a majority voted for euthanasia just a few months ago

In swelteringly hot Belém for the next few days at #COP30 Critics of climate action at home argue that the UK’s 1% of global emissions means we should go slow unless others act too. COP should be the answer to that challenge, but is it up to the task?

If each of us must do our bit, I assume we’ll see benefit freezes, the triple lock scrapped, Motability access heavily tightened, and central London social housing tenants moved somewhere cheaper... ...nah, we know it’ll just be taxpayers squeezed even further.

Great to see @AphraBrandreth speaking out against the dreadful Chagos deal, given the impact it will have on the marine environment. It’s outrageous that the government has failed to secure any meaningful guarantees that this precious environment will be protected.
I again spoke out against the Chagos Islands “deal”. It betrays British Chagossians & risks one of the world’s most pristine marine environments. Labour’s forcing this through, handing £35bn of taxpayers’ money to Mauritius with no guarantees on protection or rights. @CEN_HQ

The government's Renters' Rights Bill looks like it will be a catastrophe, inadvertently introducing rent controls and reducing the supply of housing even more. It is the clearest evidence that the whole British state that has brought it about is completely broken: • Written

How am I out of pocket when I feed my kids? Isn't feeding my children the basic purpose of a parent? Sure, some need help, but for most of us, feeding our kids is our responsibility.
Parents shouldn’t be out of pocket by setting their children up for school. That’s why we are rolling out free breakfast clubs and from next September, schools will be required to limit branded items of uniform. Saving families £500 and giving kids the best start in life.

The Government's Chagos surrender deal puts our environment at risk. The marine protected area in the Indian Ocean Territories is one of the largest untouched marine ecosystems, home to endangered species including hawksbill turtles, green turtles and reef sharks. Yet there are

I was honoured to unveil a statue of Ronald Reagan, the man who did more than any other in the fight against communism. The lesson of Reagan and Thatcher is that peace and progress are born from strength, while weakness invites danger. Labour have forgotten that truth.
