Climate action is in Conservatives’ DNA But there are legitimate critiques of our existing climate strategy To defeat the ideology and statism of Labour & Reform, the party must now quickly set out its alternative plan to cut emissions Me in @ConHome

The polling also shows that most voters do not yet back either Kemi Badenoch or Keir Starmer to reduce bills or increase energy security There is an opportunity for the Conservatives to win on energy by setting out a plan to reduce costs from all homegrown energy sources

In the piece, we publish some new polling showing: Renewables are popular with Conservative and Reform voters, alongside more nuclear and North Sea oil and gas The party should pursue a balanced energy mix and avoid blanket opposition to renewables

Today is the 25th anniversary of the first offshore wind farm going live I’ve written for @ConHome on why Conservatives shouldn't disown their legacy, but champion offshore wind as part of an energy mix, acknowledge policy mistakes, and set out plans to lower costs again
From @samuelhall0: Badenoch can win the war on energy – but that means embracing everything, including renewables

Regulators should not attempt to be market actors. Not only does this create dodgy incentives, but the schemes tend to be 💩 too. This Natural England scheme has demonstrably failed. Rather than recognising this, Labour’s Nature Restoration Fund will double down.

Now the ambitious Landscape Recovery scheme is being trashed. Why is this Labour government so intent on tearing up the best nature policies we have, one after the next? The entire electorate loves nature. The sums involved are tiny. Why why?

Conservationists say changes, coupled with underfunding, will curb take-up and leave less land protected for nature

We're hiring for an events and admin officer to join the team in the new year. We are looking for an organised and motivated person to support the coordination and delivery of CEN’s busy events programme and provide administrative support across the CEN team. 🔵🌳

This is more evidence that climate change is a massive threat to our food security, farm businesses, and the rural communities they underpin The government must given them better support by restarting vital nature-friendly farming schemes and cancelling tax rises

Given the state of housing in London & the South East, and as we wait for the politicians to pluck up the courage to do something bigger and braver, every little idea helps. LDOs for mansards = one of them. Great piece by the always great @boys_nicholas 👇

This is a great piece on the Labour government's disinterest in and neglect of the natural world. Limiting climate change is a critical goal but it is impossible without protecting and restoring natural habitats and supporting sustainable farming.
Labour’s one-dimensional focus on Net Zero has made it blind to the natural world. Carbon counting creates far more opps for tax, regulation &control than protecting nature. But any climate plan that ignores nature is self evidently absurd.

It is great to see strengthening consumer demand for rooftop solar in the UK, with installations at their highest rate in a decade With solar installation costs falling and mains electricity prices rising, it increasingly makes economic sense for households

Lovely to meet @JamesCleverly again at the @Ealing_Tories annual dinner last night. A good moment to present him with his copy of @CEN_HQ’s ‘Returning to our roots’. You can read the essay collection, including Sir James’ ‘Great Britain in a global world’, below.

More than 46,000 solar panels are being installed on the water in Barrow to power a submarine maker.

Floating solar is a brilliantly space efficient, clean energy technology, which strengthens our water and energy security. It's great to see this project proceed in Cumbria. We should be making it even easier to build these projects.

I have said it before and I will say it again: Coastal communities are crying out for genuine economic revival and resilience. Instead, the government will launch yet another funding pot. We can - and must - do better than this. Read my ideas in the link below 👇🌊

⚡️🔒 Britain is still locked out of the electric future following today’s Budget. Yes, there’s short-term relief - but it doesn’t back the long-term electrification we need to escape the cost of living crisis.

This was a damaging budget for the cost of living and growth, but also for climate action. 👇Read our @CEN_HQ response below on why the Chancellor needed to bolder on cutting electricity prices

This is another critical point about fairness The government should have designed the new EV road tax so that rural motorists, who cause less congestion and have little choice over alternatives, pay less than those in cities https://t.co/QFT3uazx29
Need more detail but a pay per motorist tax will punish rural Scots who need to drive miles for essential services. This is a Government that is simply ignorant of rural life.

Clearly EVs will need to pay their fair share of tax once they reach critical mass on our roads. But how does it make sense to start taxing their usage while also increasing subsidies to buy them? It is incoherent statism.
The new pay-per-mile tax on electric cars will result in 440,000 fewer EV sales. It will be partially offset by a 130,000 boost in sales from additional grants, but it represents a hit to the hopes of a transition to electric cars
