Interesting, Calvin would also agree with much of this I suspect. My one thought was whether Dostoevsky is in touch with how deep our self-deception can go? Here it sounds like he thinks it can be shaken off by sheer will power. I'm not so sure it's so easy.

Love a bit of Torrance. I seem to recall that he liked Michael Polanyi's notion of 'tacit knowledge' which is part of this I think! Basically picking up knowledge tacitly by participation until you can utilise that knowledge focally. Cashes out in lots of interesting ways!

Sounds like Amyraut. 'Limited' is a potentially misleading word IMO. Better to call it "effective atonement" as this expresses the idea that God always achieves what he sets out to do. Unity of operations and all that. ☺️

Yes I really need to read this but have stayed away from the Barthian rabbit hole thus far until I've read Calvin's complete corpus! I liked that Barth called Calvin 'the theologian of sanctification' - more accurate than Warfield's 'theologian of the Spirit' in my opinion!

Before evaluating Calvin on predestination its well worth reading into the far more dominant theme’s in his writing such such as his wonderful doctrine of union with Christ, his dynamic conception of piety etc 😀 Amazing stuff there which frames his treatment of predestination
