Trauma survivors rarely say, “I need help.” They say: “I’ll figure it out.” “It’s fine.” “I’ve handled worse.” They become their own safety net. Because life taught them that depending on others isn’t safe.

Millions of people have gone either undiagnosed or harmfully misdiagnosed for so long, and so of course actually recognising this and beginning to right that wrong will make diagnosis numbers spike. That's not concerning, that's a GOOD thing.

A reminder that part of the reason for there being more diagnoses now is that not only have we gotten better at recognising autism and ADHD, but we have started to push back a little on the medical misogyny and racism that have gatekept many marginalised people from diagnosis.

When they say 'autism and ADHD are being overdiagnosed' they actually mean 'I'm tired of having to recognise all these women and people of colour as needing support rather than being able to label them a problem and deal with them accordingly (abuse, institutions, prison, etc.)'.

Remember, when they say 'autism/ADHD is being overdiagnosed!' what they are actually saying is 'we preferred it when it was mostly little white boys with a very specific presentation getting diagnosed'.

Politicians who lie about disability benefits should lose their seat in Parliament. Journalists who lie about disability benefits should lose their privilege to be a journalist. It’s a form of hate crime, an incitement to hate and violence (yes, it really is).

No, you don't get a say on how a disabled person spends their money. Whether that money comes from employment, Social Security Benefits, or a mixture of the two. It's their money, their right to spend how they choose.
