I was listening the entire time, ready to leap into action out of fear of waking my neighbours, but she didn't even bark. I got back to my flat, and she was just stood in my hallway, not happy, but quietly waiting for me to come back. This is so huge for her.

Celebrate-The-Small-Victories time: my dog has pretty severe separation anxiety, and if you leave her alone in a house for one second she will start howling. Well today, I had to do the rubbish, so left her alone in my flat for a couple of minutes. and she didn't howl once 🥰.

It's so simple to understand, and the reason that journalists and politicians are pushing this lie is because the lie suits them. They're trying to distract you from the people/systems that are fucking up your lives by trying to make you jealous of disabled people instead.

No one is giving disabled people cars for free. That's not how the system works. The Motability scheme isn't a fucking TV gameshow.

Getting rid of Motability saves precisely ZERO money, because the money that goes to the Motability scheme is money that's already awarded. The people who qualify for the enhanced mobility component of PIP still get the money they're awarded, they'll just use it other ways.

That lease usually lasts about 3 years, and then they have to give the car back, and Motability sells it on as a very good quality second hand car - that's how Motability makes their money, and it's a hugely important part of the affordable good quality second hand car industry.

If they need or want a particularly nice car or particularly expensive adaptations, there usually is an upfront cost that the person has to pay, and then the monthly lease is withdrawn directly from the enhanced mobility component of their PIP.

Again for anyone who is unsure: when someone qualifies for the enhanced mobility component of PIP, they get a certain amount each month. Through the Motability scheme, that money they've already been awarded can be used to lease a car (or a wheelchair or scooter).

I need people to understand: if you take away the Motability scheme, the disabled person still gets the money, because it's literally the money they're awarded when they're assessed as needing the enhanced mobility rate of PIP. They don't get extra special fun car money.

“Scrap Motability”. Congrats you’ve saved “the taxpayer” precisely £0. You’ve also created thousands of job losses, closed several car dealerships, and hugely inflated the cost of used cars… whilst making life harder for disabled people.
