I feel like I use the term 'blood on their hands' seventeen times a day, but I'll stop using it when they stop implementing policies and pushing rhetoric that kills people.

We need safe legal routes for refugees NOW, or even more people - of all genders and all ages - are going to drown in the Channel, and that blood is on our hands.

The fact that people feeling forced to do this in this way is an indictment on our system anyway, but this new policy makes it even worse as it cuts this option entirely and means that entire families, including children, will have no choice but to make these dangerous journeys.

People like to talk shit about refugees arriving in boats being 'fighting age men' (as if men don't deserve safety), but the reality is that a lot of these men are putting themselves in danger to try and prevent their more vulnerable loved ones from having to do the same.

Let's talk about what this actually means: a lot more elderly, children and vulnerable people (often disabled) dying in boats trying to cross the channel.

Fuck the flag, I care about people.

The fact that the ONLY criticism coming from senior politicians is some weird concern about the reputation of a national flag, without a single mention of the actual people being threatened, intimidated, harassed and attacked, is extremely telling.

The problem isn't that all of this is is 'devaluing our flag', the problem is that people are racially abusing and harassing people in the street and vandalising buildings. I literally could not a shit about the flag being 'devalued'.
