PLE’s are in essence coming to UFC. Big events on CBS. I do wonder if CBS gets the “Houston Texans” Saturday afternoon AFC playoff game to lead into the UFC event in the evening. That would be a ratings monster with NFL Playoff game leading into a UFC Premium Live Event.

American soccer needs a pro/rel system. Its effects are overblown by proponents. If the quality of play on the pitch is below that of the more popular European leagues, those U.S based fans aren’t going to suddenly switch to MLS or the USL’s upcoming product.

Paramount is using UFC with no PPV to provide a consistent price point for subscribers each month. The play is for UFC fans to stay on the app to watch their other offerings from the CBS lineup and Paramount+ exclusives which is smart & could be the future.
BREAKING: UFC has agreed to a 7-year, $7.7 billion exclusive US media rights deal with Paramount. All UFC events will stream on Paramount+, with select events also airing on CBS. Paramount+ won't charge viewers any additional fees, effectively eliminating the PPV model.

Great post. It’s the reason why ESPN passed on the B1G deal to get Cal/Stan in but agreed to pay for same schools in ACC. It’s why SMU forgone 📺 revenue & got in the ACC. The Bay Area & Dallas were additive for the ACC Network. If it wasn’t, neither school is in the conference.
Nope, because they don't increase the conferences median viewership. Dollar figure wise for each Big Ten school, Clemson brings in less than$1M per school based on 2025 data. That is not bashing Clemson, it is showing how lucrative the Big Ten TV deal is and how hard it is now.

The UFL would lose some fans if it became an official NFL minor league. The current setup works for both leagues. There is a player allocation system between the UFL & NFL. Plus if the NFL-ESPN deal goes through next yr, the NFL own piece of UFL through its 10% ownership of ESPN.

I like Netflix sports strategy. It is taking a movie approach to sports. Buy events people look forward to seeing. NFL on Christmas, upcoming women’s World Cup. MLB Home Run Derby is a standalone event that can attract a viewer to Netflix it doesn’t get on an average day.

I think MLS took the right path with the wrong partner. It’s on an island with Apple. It was expected it would be home of NFL Sunday Ticket, that went to YouTube TV instead. Had it signed with Amazon for example it would be on platform with the NFL & now NBA. It chose wrong app.

The SEC or B1G is not going to give ND an ACC type deal. Either it helps rebuild the ACC with private schools, offer ACC type deal with Big 12 or go fully independent in football & join Big East in all other sports. I think ND will help backfill ACC when time comes.
This is an often overlooked point: Notre Dame has several rivalries and long relationships with current ACC schools. If the football strength of the ACC leaves, then I’d keep an eye on ND and the SEC working on a scheduling agreement. Unless the B1G offers affiliation like the.
