It's not apples to apples -- Fox One includes Fox News, and ESPN is offering more than just the linear feed -- but the fact the Fox One/ESPN bundle is $39.99 per month and Venu was $42.99 kinda tells you how much of a value add WBD's sports were to that bundle.

UFC gets $1.1 billion for seven years for all 43 events on Paramount+ — and does away with the pay per view model. See quote here from TKO COO Mark Shapiro:

The deal is for an AAV of $1.1 billion and is for 7 years. It eliminates the pay-per-view model that ESPN+ had used to upcharge premium live events. That's gone. Now all events will be included on Paramount+. Shapiro gives me a good quote on that in the linked story.

Eventually, ESPN plans to have all pay TV subscribers get its new direct-to-consumer service included for no extra charge - YouTube TV, Xfinity, Optimum, etc. But I'm told that's not going to be case on Aug. 21, when the service launches. Details below:

Here's today's Kickoff story from my newsletter, now in online form -- on why ESPN is likely in for a moment of customer confusion when it launches its new direct-to-consumer service on Aug. 21.
