For @ArtReview_ I wrote about cinema in 2024, the year the film world turned a blind eye to genocide

The year in film: 2024 was the year the film industry could no longer ignore the real world

I wrote about the whitewashing of Gothic literature on screen and what I think we can learn from Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” for the Curzon Journal (link below ⬇️)

people hate rape survivors so fucking much man. try to pursue a doomed prosecution and people will hound them about supposedly putting ‘innocent men’ in jail, but refuse to pursue prosecution and they get told they’re responsible for other people being raped.
A few years ago, in the middle of my doctorate and writing a dissertation about rape, I was violently raped by a group of men. For @thenation, I wrote about how that experience does and doesn't align with my desire for the abolition of prisons and police. https://t.co/bbWXismXEK

It's so nice talking to strangers in queues. This weekend I was in the queue for the film lab and got chatting with the guy in front of me, and we made a bit of a connection - then as he left the shop, he just handed me a roll of Ilford XP2 for free! I love human beings

I cannot overstate the extent to which the 365 buttons girl completely makes sense to me. She makes sense in an almost mystical way, like a higher truth that can only be accessed by intuition and not logic

Saying "you support international law" whilst supporting a President breaking international law - means you don't support international law. Really basic stuff - but this is how badly this Labour Government are scraping the barrel. And it all undermines international law.
2/ As the Prime Minister has made clear, we support international law. Our collective focus must now be on achieving a transition without bloodshed to a democratic government in Venezuela that respects the rights and will of its people.

My favourite Rob Reiner line delivery from Sleepless in Seattle, one among many of the funniest scenes in any Hollywood movie that he was responsible for in some way. RIP to the one of the best

Essential writing by @uncanny_eli - please write to the Justice Secretary David Lammy to protest the treatment of the hunger strikers and, if you're in London, go to the demonstration happening at the Old Bailey tomorrow. I'll put some links below
urgent: i wrote about the UK prison hunger strike, looking at vital info about how to respond to the strike & wider analysis of how it brings together different forms of liberation struggle. the media blackout is cracking a little, but time is v limited. https://t.co/mPCsRc4Pkp

How the government and its prisons ignore strikers' basic rights and demands.

Went to the Nan Goldin exhibition in Milan this week. She says: “For me, it is not a detachment to take a picture. It's a way of touching somebody—it's a caress. I think that you can actually give people access to their own soul.”

If you’re going to @closeupcentre tonight to watch The Hole, you can read the full thing in a zine for the Strange Encounters season!

I showed my dad this scene and he, master philatelist that he is, immediately recognised that they were stamps from 1950s Taiwan and South Africa (in the film the family patriarch has just received a letter from South Africa) despite not knowing anything about the film
