4/4 Toxic cultures don’t occur because of employees, they come from the top, not just line managers and supervisors but CEOs, boards and in this case governments too. Let’s not forget that.

3/4 Let’s look at what’s gone on here, and absolutely let’s denounce the abuse. But let’s not forget that what we’re seeing is the symptom of a system on its knees, and a workforce being asked to do far more than they ever signed up to do. 3/4

2/4 No one goes into the NHS or healthcare, especially the mental health service because they don’t care, they do it because they want to help. But that passion and empathy can only be sustained in an environment which allows it to be sustained.

1/4 Abuse and humiliation of patients is incredibly serious but before we jump straight to “aren’t these such horrible people” and “how could someone do this” let’s not forget that mental health workers and the mental health service are also victims here.
