1/3 Day 4 of #insectweek and today it's #Coleoptera time. This is one of the largest orders of insects with ~400,000 described species. One can only imagine the true number ๐Ÿคฏ @insectweek #InsectWeek #InsectWeek22

This #InsectWeek22 Iโ€™m going to share some of the influential and great #entomology books Iโ€™ve collected throughout my career. Books that inspired, books I couldnโ€™t live without, books that have really helped me work things out! ๐Ÿชฒ

Look out for marbled white butterflies at this time of year. Their distinctive black and white pattern makes them easy to identify. You'll mostly find them on unimproved grassland. #InsectWeek22

Tiger moth mating frenzy! ๐Ÿ˜ Comms officer Pete went for a #30DaysWild walk, and along one 100-yard stretch of foothpath found dozens of these beautiful scarlet tigers flying excitedly around and coupling up - and one extremely exhausted-looking individual! ๐Ÿ˜‚ #InsectWeek22

We featured Trichoptera from Curtis earlier in the week but today we focus on Coleoptera in โ€˜British entomology being illustrations and descriptions of the genera of insects found in Great Britain and Ireland...โ€™ by John Curtis, 1862. In 16 volumes. #InsectWeek22 #EntHist
