ZSL's 4th President, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, was born #OTD in 1819. The husband of Queen Victoria, he was Prince Regent. He was President of ZSL from 1851 until his death in 1861. The rince Albert Gate and Prince Albert Suite @zsllondonzoo are named in his memory.

#OTD in 1768 Captain James Cook and his crew set sail in HMS Endeavour from Plymouth. DYK did you know there is a connection between snail specimens collected on this voyage and a family of snails with a conservation breeding programme coordinated by ZSL?:

Samuel Richard Tickell was born #OTD in 1811. He presented ZSL with 14 manuscripts of his works on the animals of India, primarily birds. His drawing of a leopard forms part of the range of ZSL's Heritage prints:
