@HackneyNorthLab @HackneyLabour Including those on Graham Rd who have traffic like this since the adjacent LTN was put in? Think not.

.@willnorman talks a good talk, but has presided over a disastrous rise in serious cyclist injuries. 2025 will be the worst year on record despite slower speeds and a £billion spent on bike tracks, trashing the bus network and excluding disabled people from their bus services.

@neilchristiex @OneHappyDougie 1.4m miles using the lowest traffic count and no evaporation. Cycling groups have previously said LTNs can achieve 15% evaporation. Even if that’s true, that still means a million+ extra miles thanks to this LTN, many on a road with a cycle route. Is this something you support?

@neilchristiex @OneHappyDougie We could look at the facts of this LTN or we could just quote an old review that has no relevance to it. I’ve always found that LTN advocates are almost completely unwilling to countenance any criticism of any LTN not matter how strikingly bad it may be. Maybe you’re different?

Have the @hackneygreens started to disassociate themselves from the LTNs they have supported for the past 5 years? Will they do and say just about anything to gain another few seats? If @ZoeGarbett & co stood against environmental injustice we would have supported them.

Spent a few hours at the NPG. Great to see a photo of Dawn Carter-McDonald @hackneycouncil . Then the bus home got to Balls Pond Rd and my mood was ruined… “Bus Stopping” was obviously a joke. Should read “Bus Stopped”. @andrewellson @SocEnvJustice @VincentStops @ZoeGarbett

To make matters worse, the LTN redirects traffic to roads with more people living on them and more social housing The road being blocked has only 169 properties, of which 93 are social housing. The 3 roads taking the displaced traffic have 545 properties of which 303 are social

Outside LTNs on Blackstock Road …. Buses taking 1 hour to go 1 bus stop Yes 1 hour …. Yet LTNs were not opened up … Harming poorer people for a hobby was taken … all for a hobby

LTNs are greenwashing schemes for middle class activists, who wish to privatise their own roads. LTNs divert local vehicle traffic, increasing local mileage and pollution. Council (and activist academics) then pretend these negative impacts don't exist. https://t.co/Pj4Ovcguvo

I obtained the traffic counts and housing data via FOI. This also revealed the council conducted no traffic modelling before introducing the scheme When Islington proposed the LTN, it explained to residents that its ambition was to create “greener” and “healthier” streets

@JeremyAndrew11 @JohnJohnStewart Child safe for whom exactly? Those living, waiting for buses, wheeling, walking, cycling or scooting within or with-out the LTN?

@neilchristiex @OneHappyDougie Also we can disagree about whether this scheme is justified or meritorious but presumably we can agree it’s not green and never should have been labelled as such?

@neilchristiex @OneHappyDougie For example, it redirects thousands of vehicles a day on to a road with a major cycle route on it (the CS1 Boleyn rd). Is that something you support because it seems reckless and irresponsible to me.

@JohnJohnStewart @andykn101 “Careful monitoring” re: Islington LTNs, @imperialcollege used incorrect data about council LTN catchments and boundary roads. Islington & other LTN councils then used this Imperial puff piece to falsely assert positive LTN outcomes. Years on & still no apology / retraction.

A single LTN road closure to add 1.4 million extra miles to journeys ‘Green’ traffic restriction plan in Islington, North London, could generate 400 tonnes of CO2 #greenwashing

One of most revealing things in this excellent piece in today's Times is the response of Rowena Champion, Islington’s executive member for environment, air quality and transport. She doesn't challenge the many downsides of the LTN but justifies them on the basis of the benefits

A rant on Nextdoor from Simon Munk, who is in charge of campaigns at the London Cycling Campaign. A fact-free, emotional rant claiming LTNs work & attacking @ediz1975. Any decent organisation would discipline/dismiss Munk for a piece like this. Shameful.

Climate fraud of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods has significant consequences, including the erosion of public trust in climate initiatives, the misallocation of vital resources away from effective solutions, and the delay of necessary climate action, which exacerbates climate risks.
