Let’s talk about proteins whose abundance is generally independent from the abundance of the transcripts that templates them. Give examples.

Have you ever wondered how cells can look so different if they have the exact same DNA? Why can a bone cell calcify, a retina cell detect light or a muscle cell contract? This is because although they all have the same genes, not all genes are expressed in all cell-types.

EGA has no clear rules for data access (unlike GEO): ➡️ EGA delegates decisions to authors of the dataset (called Data Access Committee, DAC) ➡️ EGA does not specify time for consideration of access requests and grounds for rejecting access ➡️ Some DACs use this to delay peers
We were recently denied access to published data deposited on EGA due to competing interests. Is this a valid reason? We were surprised. Certainly wouldn't happen if the data were on GEO...

Two lessons in one. Trigger warning: dodgy stairs design.
Okay, gonna start a thread where I compare "cool concept stairs"/DIY stair fails to data visualization. You make fancy custom charts? Guess what? They are probably an accessibility liability. Use standards. See Fig. A (the alt on each image will be a bonus roast explanation):

Just caught replay of account of Act Up campaign to fight Aids epidemic indifference in U.S. in 1980s. Poignant to hear voices of people who suffered when I was a child. Those who survived overcame and are an inspiration.

1/ How do our bodies – with their incredible complexity - come from a single fertilised egg? How is it co-ordinated? What tissues come from what? Why (and how) might it go wrong? These are the questions we asked in our study out in @nature this week. https://t.co/XVfHhX9ZLe
