Hire clowns, get the circus.
> today this guy axes FAIR at Meta > so this is a quick recap of his origin story > and why he should not be the one > making that decision > Alexandr Wang, born January 1997 > age 19, drop out of MIT > co-found Scale AI > "what if we label data, but mid?" > convince every LLM

Yuandong is well-respected within Meta, detail oriented, and technically sharp -- this layoff doesn't make sense and my hunch is that it might be targeted towards ex-GenAI people. Meta's loss, but could be your win if you hiring frontier RL researchers ;)

I mean work hard if you want to, too. But it's nicer when it's self-motivated.

An extract of a conversation with someone who's collecting labubus: Me: Remember the beanie babies craze from the mid 90s? Them: No, what are those? This is why these things sell ๐

You have no idea how much crap I got two years ago for saying stuff pretty similar to what guys like Andrej and Ilya are saying today.

In this era of tech CEO appeasement, @RonConway showed a spine. No military in U.S. cities. Hard to believe it's even controversial.
Scoop: Ron Conway, the prominent Silicon Valley venture capitalist and Democratic donor, resigned today from the board of the Salesforce Foundation. He told his longtime friend, Marc Benioff, he barely recognizes him anymore. https://t.co/DH2orHDihy

Foxes in Japanese lore, as taught to me by the totally valid source that is Ghost of Tsushima: elegant, mysterious beings that gracefully guide you to a shrine and wisp away enigmatically. London Foxes: YO WE GONNA SHIT ON UR DOORSTEP THEN SPREAD YOUR TRASH ACROSS YOUR YARD ๐ฆ๐

I think SF Tech/Silicon Valley's online presence would so much more palatable if it focussed more on the value propositions/products and less on posts about being a founder/builder, how great it is to live in SF, and performative stuff. Feels like poser culture from 90s skating.

In the 90s - before propaganda campaigns like this and when people thought London was portrayed accurately in movies like 'Four Weddings' and 'Notting Hill' - London's murder rate was double what it is now. It is more dangerous to live in any major city in the US than in London.
Liberal man that voted for Biden and Kamala, says heโs now a Trump supporter after visiting London.. โThe crime and immigration is out of control over here, nobody feels safe..โ ๐

This is going to get me piled on a bit but a video referencing the moon landing and the fall of the Berlin Wall in a post about raising capital for a prediction market encapsulates everything I hate about the tech industry
Kalshi recently raised $300M+ at $5B from Sequoia, a16z, Paradigm and others. Since then, we've grown over 3x, hit $50B of annualized volume, and became the largest prediction market in the world. And todayโฆKalshi goes global. 140+ countries. 1 liquidity pool.

Okay, I've spent most of the weekend on, and then recovering from, a red eye flight from SFO to LHR, so I may be a bit sinker pur and out of the loop, but... can someone please explain to me why Anthropic has apparently come out with merch advertising Thinking Machines?

To be fair, some of the hardest working folks I know will find time for their kids and resume work after they are asleep, but that's their balance. Not great for their health in the long run, but they show up for their kids.

The overlap between the "work life balance is for those who don't want to WIN" folks and the "have a large family" folks is inexplicably high. WTAF do you want people to do? Have a bunch of kids and just never see them??
