I have said it before and I will say it again, there is nothing that will improve your writing more than beta readers. And beyond that, like 60% of my closest friendships have started that way. Go find beta readers. Writing and social life will thank you.

People forget that indie publishing is an ecosystem. We all want our stories published, but it’s not a one way street. Community requires investment from all sides and we need to attend to the institutions that support writers just as much as they support us. Or they die.
This is the thing that editors/publishers don't talk about. Many (I'd venture to guess most, but I don't have hard numbers on that) zines are not making a profit. Most editors work for no or very little money.
