I am incredibly disappointed to hear of the outcome of the Qantas link base review that will result in the closures of Hobart, Mildura and Canberra bases. These bases are more than regional hubs, they provide local jobs and critical connectivity to our regions.

Wish I could talk about the teaching and research achievements of our members but nonetheless was great to join former colleague Sue Wright, debunking the excuses of the vice-chancellors’ lobby group for management’s bad decisions

Almost one in every two Australian universities has been restructured in the past year, and there is more to come. Thousands of jobs have been cut, and thousands more are in the firing line. At the...

The people who are doing this to babies deserve comparison with the worst war criminals in history.
Watched in horror the report on Gaza on ABC’s Foreign Correspondent about suffering of children. Newborn babies in incubators which are losing their power. A boy in a bed with an infected knee with no antibiotics - an amputation?

This Senate inquiry exposed a culture where secrecy was the norm, overpaid university executives treated public institutions like their own backyard, and consequences were rare for misadventure. ANU is a textbook case: tone-deaf restructures, staff unrest, and a vice-chancellor

Justice Rangiah in his own words in Lattouf v ABC penalty decision. The broadcaster has been ordered to pay $150,000. I was previously awarded $70,000 for hurt and distress. ABC has spent in excess of $2 million on legal fees. The real cost to Aunty is immeasurable.

Tantrums of the Privileged Right Let’s drop the myth: the young men drifting to the far-Right aren’t victims of inequality. Most come from privilege. What drives them isn’t hardship but resentment, fury that the status they think they deserve never arrived. As McKenzie &

Many anticipated an announcement yesterday. If this is being held up while millionaires negotiate how many more millions they'll take from a public university, after all this damage to @ourANU, that is about as damning an indictment on university governance as you can get. 😡
We'll be ready to work with interim leadership from Day 1 to end Renew ANU and stop *all* forced redundancies. This is only possible with new leadership. @NTEUnion - and everyone else - knows that the farce at @ourANU has gone on for far too long. https://t.co/WQKMv5w6pu

Vice-chancellors will face the Senate inquiry into university governance on Monday. They have very serious questions to answer about shocking governance failures on their watch. So far we've seen no meaningful action from VCs to fix governance. Reform is urgent.

The misappropriation of the Eureka flag is a sorry sight. For union workers & their families it symbolises working class solidarity. Lately, bastardised by divisive racists as a jingoistic symbol of cringe Australiana. Don’t forget its origin story 👇
If you see a Eureka flag today know that, Raffaello Carboni, an Italian who helped create flag, said: 'I call upon all diggers, irrespective of colour, religion or creed, to salute the Southern Cross as a refuge for all the oppressed from all nations on earth.' Credit: Brett

Fair antidote to the protests to see Sydney turn it on like only Sydney can, with enormous crowds soaking it all in to watch a Muslim refugee lay her claim as one of the greatest runners the world has ever seen.

Australia should consider itself fortunate to have such courageous leaders of community who also happen to be world-class cricketers in @Uz_Khawaja & @patcummins30. Two men who are prepared to speak up on their beliefs & stick their necks out to make the world a better place

This rally, and the CASS People's Town Hall, were excellent today. Both showed the best of @ourANU.
Great solidarity from @ourANU staff, students, and broader community today in the face of mass ANU job cuts. It was also fantastic to be joined by Senator @DavidPocock and Laura Nuttall MLA. ✊ Join the @NTEUnion today at https://t.co/REVce4Vhct.

This unprecedented intervention is a damning indictment of the governance crisis engulfing not just ANU, but universities around the country. Such a massive win for @NTEUnion members fighting for governance reform. Time for national change!
