Yesterday I hosted @Uz_Khawaja to call on the PM to back the Murphy Review & ban gambling advertising to protect young š¦šŗs. This isnāt about banning gambling, itās about stopping the normalising of it in the country that loses the most per capita in the š.

Debate over the volume of gambling ads flared up for the first time since the election as cricketer Usman Khawaja took his anti-gambling campaign direct to Anthony Albanese.

Richard Boyle has paid with his career, health & years of stress for blowing the whistle on the ATO. He has not been sent to jail, but the cost to him has been enormous. Whistleblowers protect all of us, yet the law fails them. Itās time for reform.
abc.net.au
Australian Taxation Office whistleblower Richard Boyle has avoided convictions and a jail sentence, seven years after publicly exposing aggressive debt collection practices at the tax office.

In 2023, Govt was given a report on how to ensure public appointments are made on merit. Two years later Govt claims itās "still considering" the report & can't release it. The Senate has ordered its release & Iāll keep pursuing this ātil itās published.

Katy Gallagher says cabinet is considering the report.

This is not a choice any old Australian should have to make. We need to do better than this. Govt must release more home care packages now - there is no good reason to delay until November.

Our national environment laws are failing, allowing destruction to roll on while threatened species slip closer to extinction. Good to see the Govt focussed on reform. Success must be measured on how well reforms protect the places & species we love.
abc.net.au
The environment minister says he has heard a message loud and clear from last week's productivity round table that the "urgent" rewrite of Australia's environmental approval laws should be sped up.

Attacking health infrastructure, killing journalists, starving children - how many more flagrant breaches of international law will governments tolerate before sanctioning PM Netanyahu and stopping trade with Israel?.

Israel has launched a series of attacks on the Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, with local health authorities reporting at least 20 people have been killed.

The cost of kicking real reform down the road. For more than three years Iāve been calling for reform of the failed JRG program alongside colleagues on the crossbench. If govt wants to fix intergenerational inequity this is a great place to start.

We need a plan for immigration & population that takes into account housing & infrastructure. I tried to get a senate inquiry to look at this last parliament but couldnāt get support. Parliament needs to discuss these issues & ensure we have a plan.
abc.net.au
The failure to match population with housing and infrastructure has led to a more serious decline in living standards than is evident from GDP per capita statistics.

Tinkering isnāt going to fix a housing crisis. A 1-yr pause on national construction code & a 3-month head start on First Homebuyer Guarantee arenāt the big bold reforms we need. Tax reform, popln plan, bigger govt investment all need to be on the table.
abc.net.au
A scheme to allow all first homebuyers to purchase a property with only a 5 per cent deposit will begin in October, three months earlier than Labor promised at the federal election.

Govt has starved the home care system - and refuses to listen to Xbench calls to release 20,000 packages to give ppl support now. Now weāre seeing the consequences in our hospitals. Iām not surprised to see Premiers cracking it.

WA Premier Roger Cook will meet with Anthony Albanese on Tuesday, putting the case for more aged care funding to free up badly needed public hospital beds.Ā

Last term I negotiated $8m from the fed govt to reinstate ACCC flight monitoring to help try & improve pricing & reliability for flights in & out of Canberra. Clearly more action is needed to give Canberrans the reliable & affordable flight services.

This is how broken our lobbying laws are. Every resources minister since 2001 went on to work for fossil fuel companies & 8 ex-ministers & senior advisers now lobby for gamblingš°. It's time for complete reform of lobbying rules + independent watchdog.
abc.net.au
Lobbying has become big business, with around 727 lobbyists registered in the national capital, more than three times the number of elected officials sitting in parliament.

The Labor Govt delayed approving one of š¦šŗ's biggest fossil fuel projects until after the election & is now hiding the National Climate Risk Assessment. Australians deserve honesty. Selling out the people & places we love to vested interests must stop.

The Coalition lacks credibility on climate. But that doesnāt translate to an automatic advantage for Labor.

Australiaās biggest miners have pocketed almost $60BN in diesel tax subsidies in <20 years. Unless we act, taxpayers lose $84BN more by 2030. It makes no sense for š¦šŗns to pay tax while coal giants get a free pass. End this fossil fuel subsidy now.

A Climate Energy Finance report recommends a $50 million cap on the fuel tax subsidy for mining companies to create more cash for green projects.
