Yesterday I hosted @Uz_Khawaja to call on the PM to back the Murphy Review & ban gambling advertising to protect young 🇦🇺s. This isn’t about banning gambling, it’s about stopping the normalising of it in the country that loses the most per capita in the 🌏.

Tomorrow a Govt-controlled Senate Committee reports on the crossbench bill to create a Whistleblower Protection Authority. Richard Boyle’s case shows why reform is urgent. Labor has a choice: back whistleblowers, or leave them exposed.

Richard Boyle has paid with his career, health & years of stress for blowing the whistle on the ATO. He has not been sent to jail, but the cost to him has been enormous. Whistleblowers protect all of us, yet the law fails them. It’s time for reform.

In 2023, Govt was given a report on how to ensure public appointments are made on merit. Two years later Govt claims it’s "still considering" the report & can't release it. The Senate has ordered its release & I’ll keep pursuing this ‘til it’s published.

This is not a choice any old Australian should have to make. We need to do better than this. Govt must release more home care packages now - there is no good reason to delay until November.

Our national environment laws are failing, allowing destruction to roll on while threatened species slip closer to extinction. Good to see the Govt focussed on reform. Success must be measured on how well reforms protect the places & species we love.

Attacking health infrastructure, killing journalists, starving children - how many more flagrant breaches of international law will governments tolerate before sanctioning PM Netanyahu and stopping trade with Israel?.

The cost of kicking real reform down the road. For more than three years I’ve been calling for reform of the failed JRG program alongside colleagues on the crossbench. If govt wants to fix intergenerational inequity this is a great place to start.

We need a plan for immigration & population that takes into account housing & infrastructure. I tried to get a senate inquiry to look at this last parliament but couldn’t get support. Parliament needs to discuss these issues & ensure we have a plan.

Tinkering isn’t going to fix a housing crisis. A 1-yr pause on national construction code & a 3-month head start on First Homebuyer Guarantee aren’t the big bold reforms we need. Tax reform, popln plan, bigger govt investment all need to be on the table.

Govt has starved the home care system - and refuses to listen to Xbench calls to release 20,000 packages to give ppl support now. Now we’re seeing the consequences in our hospitals. I’m not surprised to see Premiers cracking it.

Last term I negotiated $8m from the fed govt to reinstate ACCC flight monitoring to help try & improve pricing & reliability for flights in & out of Canberra. Clearly more action is needed to give Canberrans the reliable & affordable flight services.

This is how broken our lobbying laws are. Every resources minister since 2001 went on to work for fossil fuel companies & 8 ex-ministers & senior advisers now lobby for gambling💰. It's time for complete reform of lobbying rules + independent watchdog.

The Labor Govt delayed approving one of 🇦🇺's biggest fossil fuel projects until after the election & is now hiding the National Climate Risk Assessment. Australians deserve honesty. Selling out the people & places we love to vested interests must stop.

Job Ready Graduates has to go - it has totally failed and is loading students up with debt. This Labor Govt needs to go for more than the headline grab and start to tackle the root causes of problems.

Australia’s biggest miners have pocketed almost $60BN in diesel tax subsidies in <20 years. Unless we act, taxpayers lose $84BN more by 2030. It makes no sense for 🇦🇺ns to pay tax while coal giants get a free pass. End this fossil fuel subsidy now.
