As @RebeccaSolnit observes: the abuse of power by men exists on a “continuum that stretches from minor social misery to violent silencing and violent death” @suigenerisjen ‘s experience following an awards event which ended in violence is all of us. https://t.co/QTV34aZLb5

I was floored by the audacity; to hit a woman in the head in front of 20 witnesses – and dare us to try to bring criminal charges.

Will solar PV soon be the cheapest source of electricity in most places around the world? This @NatureComms paper says yes. Most surprisingly this is AFTER including short- and long-term storage costs for renewable energy sources. https://t.co/wfNfg7ic7b

Energy transition investment topped $1.8 trillion in 2023 says BloombergNEF. Much of this is driven by renewable energy and electric vehicles so far. But grid investments, electrified heat, industry decarbonisation and nuclear are also picking up steam.

Congratulations to @mcannonbrookes, who just received government approval to build the world's largest renewable and storage project. Sun Cable is a preposterously large (24GW+) solar and wind farm plus an improbably long electricity cord. https://t.co/gveXctXh6V

How are energy markets like a tandem bike? How do they have to change to accommodate increasing renewables as part of the energy transition? Great explainer from @DrIanBerryman and Helen Kou from @BloombergNEF #renewables #energytransition https://t.co/2ZPnHtFBnH

What’s going on with lithium-ion battery prices? In short, they’re plummeting, and the implications are just starting to ripple out across the automotive and power sectors. A short thread:

🚨 BNEF’s New Energy Outlook 2024 shows the window to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 is rapidly closing. There's still time for the world to get on track – if decisive action is taken now. Failure to do so risks putting even a 1.75C global warming target out of reach.

Hydrogen can help Australia hit net-zero carbon emissions and become a green energy superpower – but only if it gets targeted government support.

*Metal decarbonization* is essential for deep decarbonization. Electrolysis is an elegant solution and is now being pursued for decarbonizing ironmaking and other industrial processes. However, aluminum is already electrolytic and is still stubbornly CO2 intense. Why? 🧵(1/19)

Thread: Each week I run a simulation of Australia’s main electricity grid using rescaled generation data to show that it can get very close to 100% renewable electricity with just 5 hrs of storage (24 GW / 120 GWh) Results: last week: 100% RE last 118 weeks: 99.0% RE (1/4)
