Incredible!.
Can’t believe our new @NatureComms paper is out! ✨🧠🤰. We tracked a cohort of 179 women before, during, and post-pregnancy, revealing a U-shaped trajectory in the mother’s brain structure linked to steroid hormone fluctuations and maternal attachment. #ParentalBrain. 🧵👇

Wrote this piece for @NatureNV building on the landmark study by @emilyjacobs @laura_pritschet. The pregnant brain appears to run through a program of change preparing for birth and beyond… but most importantly, this is a call for more research! 🗣️ cheers @HollyASmith_488.
A case study has revealed widespread changes to the maternal brain during pregnancy. This is a milestone in the emerging neuroscience of ‘matrescence’ — the idea that pregnancy is a developmental stage in adulthood.

The future of maternal brain science is bright with stars like @MagdaMartinezGa ! So great to have you in NYC 🤩.
Meeting and connecting w/ researchers of my same field is a passion of mine. The neuroscience of pregnancy is full of talented scientists driving the field forward with the right designs to answer the right questions. Thank you @clareamc for having me in your lab @nyugrossman 🫶🏽

The maternal brain is incredible! @laura_pritschet @emilyjacobs have shown, for the first time, the extent of brain changes during pregnancy. Such a valuable roadmap for future studies. So excited to keep moving this work forward! I shared comments here
sciencenews.org
Neuroscientist Liz Chrastil’s brain scans before, during and after pregnancy are providing the first view of a mom-to-be’s structural brain changes.
5 years ago, on the heels of 28andMe, our team designed a new precision imaging experiment: scanning an individual’s brain throughout her entire pregnancy. We are excited to share that these findings are out today in @NatureNeuro!

Fascinating & important thread. “Both upward mobility and the idea that hard work translates into success are *less true in the US than almost anywhere else*”. And sobering to see Australia not far behind in some of these figures suggesting individualist mentality….
But despite such wide disparities in US living standards, a fascinating new study finds that:.• Americans are less supportive of efforts to redistribute income from rich to poor than people in peer countries.• After reading about inequality in the US they become even less keen!

"Mommy brain" usually means forgetfulness and foggy thinking during pregnancy or new parenthood. But more likely, the brain is changing to help us parent.
