I did a new podcast with @dkazand about how to help others process big emotions and "feel their feelings". IMO it's a key life skill, esp for relationships, parenting, and self-integration!. We did a live demo of resonance for emotional processing. It's an improvable skill!.

here's a draft guide to being very empathetic (by using *resonance*). Instead of giving advice or fixing their problems when someone is venting or the conversation gets a bit emotional:. Use. Resonance! It helps others digest their emotions. It's kind of like a modified.

parenting is also like ai training. Pre-training: them constantly observing you (+ others, environment). SFT: narrate their actions and narrate your actions (labeled data), also "i'll do it first, then you try". RLHF: whatever you give them attention for, they do more of.

At the end of the day, training a model is not that far from raising a kid. You want the model to have all the best of a human being — kind, patient, knowledgeable and curious.

My favorite AI product, by some margin, is o3 (regular) with web search enabled, on the ChatGPT iOS app using transcribed voice input (voice input, text output). What’s your fav?.

when you dislike something, IGNORING IT beats responding. ATTENTION = REWARD. most people are decent at reinforcing things they like. but i see lots of people accidentally reinforcing things they dislike!. the gods of attention see only magnitude of engagement
