Well folks: we passed City Council unanimously last night for our 1-acre infill Townsend project with 20 for-sale townhomes and 8,700 SF of boutique commercial in downtown Edmond (Oklahoma City metro). Gearing up to break ground this spring. Boy this is going to be FUN!

Congrats to @mspringut and his team at @Monumental_Labs. Got to visit his workshop (before they moved) earlier this year, and what they have cooking is super exciting!. Recommend following along if you care about building beautiful, multi-century architecture again.

The infinite pursuit of safety doesn’t lead to human flourishing. It leads to the opposite.

It’s worth noting that “life and safety” and “accessibility” are two of the top reasons for why this is now illegal today. Yet this is such a quintessentially human space. In our blind pursuit of “making sure nothing ever goes wrong”—we’ve completely dehumanized our habitat.

Another cool photo of one of our buildings at Selah (a walkable neighborhood). I’m deeply inspired by Dutch architecture and urbanism—and got the chance to do a stepped gable and stone caps here. But overall remarkably simple detailing!. Beauty doesn’t have to be complicated.

@AustinTunnell: our “deconstructed city, this assembly-line living” is (besides health/societal issues) unaffordable to maintain and fuels debt spirals. Gentle density with “many centers” preserves communities amidst urban expansion. Great hardware enables great software

Stunning. We plan to build things like this in the not-too-distant future. While no groin vaults, Townsend will be a similar scale and will have some real magic to it like this does. Oh, and we’ve got gas lanterns going in.

Our friends at Selah (walkable neighborhood near Norman) recently posted this. Love seeing our building as the backdrop of a vibrant community!. I’d say it’s doing its job well.

I’m in awe: 2.3k likes and not a single person commented that I misspelled ‘fluorescent’. Given how ruthless Twitter can be, I’ll take it as a sign the message of better office space resonates so loudly with people it distracted them!! 😂.

No more florescent lights!. No more mini golf as an “amenity”. Just beautiful, intentional space—for deep focus, creative collisions, and being surrounded by people who actually care about their work.

Deep, focused work is really important to me. I don't want lots of distractions. But I DO want the ability to step outside of my focused work easily for a short break: a walk in the park, 15 minutes in the sun in a beautiful courtyard, a small convo at the coffee station with

Most people think the future of more affordable housing is prefab. I am much more bullish on distributed manufacturing. Vertically integrated, local, process focused, tech forward. I’m excited about what these guys are doing & have my eye on them. Would love to bring to OKC.

Two days ago, we surpassed 700,000 engineering hours @buildwithcuby. In that time, @AKandrashou and I have shown very little to the world (a function of moving fast rather than moving loud); despite signing pretty large contracts and breaking ground on our first stateside MMF.

Doing good, human-scale development often feels like going to war with every department, entrenched law and broken system. And that's just to get the permission. Then you still have to build it. Wild.
